Forest Point Keep
Built on a hill overlooking the Sypi River, Forest Point Keep is also located on a small peninsula, keeping it isolated from land attack. The keep possesses multiple lines of defense, and a small hamlet within, including a skilled blacksmith, known for forging the finest weaponry for the River Watch. It is well staffed and garrisoned, by some of the best equipped warriors in the Confederacy. They rarely allow civilians into the territory of the keep and will turn back almost any traveler headed down the peninsula.
Purpose / Function
Forest Point Keep was built to act as an additional fortress to observe the primary locations of giant crossings over the Sypi River. It was also built with the idea in mind that it would be an armory and production center for weapons for the River Watch. Multiple defensive layers were created within the walls to protect the weapons within, also being provided with the siege weapons and maintenance center. Damaged weapons from other castles along the Sypi River are sent here to be restored or repaired, as the situation requires. The forge located here is one of the oldest in the Confederacy, and has been well known for high quality products, with the equipment used to create it built by the Shin Empire.
History
Forest Point Keep was built in the late fifth century, as the River Watch sought to expand its operations along the Sypi River. The existing forts at the time were deemed insufficient for maintaining the line. Simultaneously, an issue had emerged with the repair and upkeep of the siege weapons used by the River Watch. Advanced weapons donated by the Shin were falling into disrepair, and these weapons had begun to form an essential pillar of the defense of the river line. Therefore it was determined that the new castle would not only be designed for defense of the bend in the river at the site, but also for the repair and upkeep of the weaponry of the River Watch.
The castle served this purpose nobly, and became responsible for numerous giant kills over the centuries. The craftsmen for the keep were typically hired from the Mikka and Cotaw tribes, bringing their expertise in melee weapons to the River Watch. During times when relations were good between the Confederacy and Shin Empire, new high quality siege weapons would also continue to emerge, but as the years went by, this exchange eventually came to a close.
When the Sypi Civil War broke out, Forest Point's proximity to Wofslar made it an appealing target to the Sihka and their allies, but at first the River Watch remained neutral. After the Burrow Incident, when the River Watch entered the war, the armories of Wofslar were emptied to equip the Bienombe's supporters, and many of these devices never returned to the stockpiles. Forest Point itself never came under siege, as even with the armory reduced to minimal staffing, the walls and weapons within were still too intimidating for a direct assault. Occasional Sihka raids attacked supply caravans going to and from the castle, but none would dare come within range of the powerful mounted weapons that continued to bring down giants even as the war raged onward.
