Grenadd
The town of Grenadd was the second largest permanent settlement in the Sypi Confederacy prior to the Civil War, but the devastation of that conflict led to a rapid depopulation of the community. The breweries of Grenadd were the most famous feature of the community, producing over fifty percent of alcohol consumed in the Confederacy. Unfortunately, this led to a rise in criminal activity, and the lower classes in town were badly exploited over the years, and became eager to listen to the messages of the Church of the One Sun. This sparked a brutal conflict within the town confines, as ironically, the wealthier people supported the Bienombes rather than the Sihka Tribe. The town boasted multiple places of worship to the Church, all have been left in ruins. The town is far undersized for the walls that currently stand, with many of the old districts left abandoned and popular breeding grounds for criminals and bandits.
Demographics
The town of Grenadd consists nearly entirely of humans, of a variety of tribal origins, although many are descendants of migrants from the height of the Jakonian Empire. Surprisingly, a noticeable population of mountain gnomes has also settled in Grenadd, operating one of the breweries in town. They remained even during the civil war, while most other minorities fled due to the persecution of the Church of the One Sun and their agents.
Government
The town of Grenadd is ruled directly by the reigning noble houses, which had professed its loyalty to the Bienombe tribe during the war. The result was immediate riots, and the devastation of the local population as many fled for Sihka held territories or joined with their armies. The leadership of Grenadd have since established absolute control over the environs of the town, and appoint delegates to undertake any tasks or jobs required to manage the populace or communities. They tend to manage minimally, and for the most part they lack the numbers and authority to cover the whole town with needed work.
Defences
The stone wall of Grenadd is well known to be one of the most formidable static defenses of the Sypi Confederacy. The walls are nearly thirty feet in height and nearly impregnable without the most sophisticated magic or siege weapons. During the Civil War they fended off four separate attempts at Sihka attack, with the most successful only being so due to the infiltration of the populace by spies. Unfortunately these defenses are poorly manned and the town guard is woefully understaffed, with the militia having been disbanded in the wake of the war. Only the handful of personal guards hired by the reigning house offer any sort of protection or law in Grenadd.
Industry & Trade
The breweries of Grenadd were just the pinnacle of the local economy, which is also one of the primary sources of grain present in the Confederacy. The fields surrounding the town are vast and numerous, but have remained unfortunately fallow for much of the past decade. Previously the grains had been used in a booming series of bakeries and other food processing industry, but these have been abandoned as the work force of the town dried up during the war. The breweries are now the only remaining consistent revenue and product present, and export their goods across the Confederacy.
Infrastructure
Past rulers had paved the roads of Grenadd and added moderate sewage systems, although the latter were badly damaged during the civil war. These systems have not been repaired and have been abandoned since the end of the war, left in wreckage and abandoned. The town is well adorned with lanterns and lamps to provide lighting in the darkest nights, and these continue to be operated by agents hired by the upper classes. The breweries of Grenadd are the finest accomplishments in infrastructure, industriously and innovatively designed to help brew and create the finest beers and ales in western Emicara.
Assets
Grenadd possesses only one major inn and two unassociated taverns officially, but there are numerous hostels and other bunkhouses where people can bed down for the evening. This even excludes the large number of vacant homes and residences caused by the Civil War. It is not uncommon for travelers to simply squat in a vacant house for the night. The biggest asset of the town of course is the wide variety of crafted brew and beers available for distribution. The brewers often allow for open tastings which attract some of the wealthiest people from Wofslar and elsewhere across the Confederacy.
