Department of the Army

The Department of the Army represents the strongest land-based military force in the Kingdom of Forard. In theory, this department should consist of the entire ground forces of the kingdom, but in practice, nearly every Department maintains at least one regiment for internal control and preservation of power. The Department of the Army is charged with the protection of the kingdom's land borders, and any offensive actions that may or may not be taken against those same neighbors. As such, they work closely with the Department of Statecraft, but are known to have a long-term rivalry with the Department of the Navy.

Structure

The Department of the Army is strictly organized along the lines of the imperial Jakonian regimental structure. Every regiment is headed by a colonel, while collections of these regiments into armies or garrisons are led by generals. The leader of the Department is officially called the Department Head, but in practice, they also maintain the rank of general, and have somewhat equal status with the others of their rank. All of the department generals regularly meet to determine strategic priorities, and most of the time any issues are determined by a vote, although the Department Head is the tie-breaker if a deadlock emerges.

Public Agenda

The Department of the Army is well known to be highly aggressive and eager for war. They have advocated for a full mobilization against the Sypi Confederacy, due to the persistent raids and the hostility of the new High Chief. The army calls for more enlistment and recruitment into their ranks, to provide a large standing military force. They have also repeatedly called for the reduction of standing regiments in other departments, arguing that all warfare capabilities should be consolidated, as the nation's founding fathers intended.

Assets

The Department of the Army maintains six different castles for protection and training purposes. This is supplemented by the department's direct control over the growing mining town of Opella Keep, which began as a Department of the Army fortification, but has since grown into a true community. They also possess an impressive array of weaponry and armor, scattered throughout arsenals based in every major town and city of the kingdom. These are all guarded by sixty standing regiments that make up the bulk of the Forardi armed forces. They also maintain a small navy of two dozen warships, mostly directed at supporting operations along the interior rivers of Forard.
