King Regent William Bede
Most of the knowledge of William Bede, father of the Eternal Empress of the Shin, has been lost to history. He was a descendant of warriors who fought for the Nameless Empire yet survived the war that brought down that nation. They survived in a remote fortification that avoided the weapons of the Empire's enemies, and attempting to preserve some of what had been lost. While his parents stood for that mission, William felt that they should be attempting to bring about a new nation from the ruins of the old, rather than simply living in the Nameless Empire's shadow. His relationship with Jayne Bede drove that plan forward and the two of them worked to establish a new kingdom that was thriving with ample food and water in the lands of their ancestors.
When William's daughter, Laura, returned from adventuring, offering the gift of immortality to her family, William was the only one to refuse the gift. He chose instead to live as a normal human, rather than embracing the opportunity to live forever. He aged, while his wife and children did not, but he was content, choosing to live out his life in the kingdom he had helped build. The invasion that brought down the Bedes' kingdom shocked him and he chose to stay and fight, while his wife nobly stood alongside him. The two of them were slain holding back the tides of the enemies, and he was lost to history.
