The Topaz District

The slums north of the port and pouring out away from the walls of the city are called the Topaz District. A large majority of the farmers, sailors, and workers of the city call these rough streets home. While only a few blocks away from the castle, the law and order ruling the rest of the city shies away from the more shady side of business and ethics to control things and pull the strings. The alleys and businesses of the Topaz District are protected by The Domino.   The Topaz District is where the Topaz Gate, the northernmost entrance to the capital, is located due to its proximity to the houses of the farmers and field workers.   The streets are often bustling with people and activity. Businesses of all sorts line the streets, from shops and taverns to gambling dens and brothels. Merchants of all sorts ply their wares and services to the people of the district, from herbal remedies and magical trinkets to weapons and armor. Street vendors hawk their wares, from exotic fruits and vegetables to handmade jewelry and knick-knacks.   The streets of the Topaz District can still be dangerous, and the area is known for its high rate of crime. Pickpockets, muggers, and con-artists are a common sight, preying on the unsuspecting. Fights and brawls are common as well, and the Domino often has to step in to put an end to them. Despite the crime, however, the Topaz District is a place of life and community, where people of all sorts mingle and interact. It is a place of camaraderie and friendship, and the people of the district look out for one another.   The citizens of the Topaz District are a diverse bunch, with a wide range of backgrounds and professions. Sailors, merchants, laborers, farmers, and artisans all call the district home. In addition, there are many criminals, outcasts, and other shady characters who take refuge in the district’s alleys and backstreets. It is known for its colorful characters, from the mysterious street magician to the legendary fencer who can be found in the taverns. It’s also a place for adventurers, with many seeking to make their fortunes in the city’s seedy underbelly. Life in the Topaz District is never boring and the people who call it home are some of the most interesting and unique in the city.
