Emerald Bay

The Crown Jewel of Aéredon

The capital city, Emerald Bay sits on two low hills at the mouth of the Big Torren River in The Great Bay. It was the first place the people landed and the city has seen tremendous growth as it prospered much since those early days. The current king is Aérethor II and his palace is nestled inside the city walls, where it can be seen from all over, as its majestic towers rise high above the buildings on the streets.

"The warm sun beats down on your skin, as a cool breeze brushes your face. Seagulls skim the ocean waves, occasionally dropping below the surface. The lookout screams “Land ahead!” and jolts you from the relaxing view. As you draw closer to the island of Aéredon, you can’t help but notice the sparkle of green below the water in the bay. As the boat enters the wide bay, you can faintly make out two massive and distant towers on the north and south sides of the bay. Sailors and passengers alike flock to the deck and squeeze against each other on the rails to get a better view of the city.

Looking out, you see ahead, a crowded dock with several large warships unloading and loading provisions, soldiers and weapons. Between the moorings nearly a dozens smaller vessels dart in and out between them, most full of fishermen or divers making their way out to sea for the day's work. Beyond the docks, the city expands away from the bustling bay. Large warehouses and storage buildings dot the waterfront, with inns and bars and shops sandwiched between.
About 30 minutes later the giant ship sails into the harbor and ropes are thrown to men on the docks who pull the ship the last bit of the way, tying it down to the docks. The gangplank drops to the worn timbers of the pier along the waterfront and you make your way down to the city."

Districts

The Topaz District

The slums north of the port and pouring out away from the walls of the city are called the Topaz District. A large majority of the farmers, sailors, and workers of the city call these rough streets home. While only a few blocks away from the castle, the law and order ruling the rest of the city shies away from the more shady side of business and ethics to control things and pull the strings. The alleys and businesses of the Topaz District are protected by The Domino.

The Sapphire District

The docks, market stalls, and many warehouses along the waterfront make up the Sapphire District. Most of the cities tourists arriving on ships from other cities are greeted to the capital by a plethora of small shops and stalls in the warm ocean air. Following the main street west will take you right to the front gate of the castle. Sapphire Square is where any large events are held.

The Emerald District

The lords and nobles of the country all live in the Emerald District, so it is the wealthiest part of the city. Besides being stacked with mansions, many of the Temples to Gods are located in this rich district, the largest of which is The Dawn Temple dedicated to The Father.

The Amethyst District

The center most part of the city contains The Arcanium Universalis and is headquarters of all magical research and knowledge in The Kingdom of Aéredon. The campus takes up a majority of the northern part of the district. The remaining area is mostly housing and apartments of the faculty and employees in the district. There are a few magical shops as well.

The Amber District

The Amber District is the largest part of the city because it is where most of the citizens live. The Amber Gate is one of the main entrances into the city due to the high number of commoner foot traffic entering and leaving the city to work the fields nearby. The citizens of the Amber District squabble with the Ruby District citizens over petty arguments over who is better.

The Ruby District

The Ruby District forms a protective flank for the west side of the castle. Most of the soldiers in the army live in this part of town, as well as members of the town guard. The Cotton Bridge separates the two feuding neighborhoods. The guards and soldiers of the Ruby District think they are better than the Amber District dwellers. Street scuffles break out between the two groups often. Several decades ago riots broke out as the Amber District erupted into an uprising known as the Red River Rebellion.
