Akalúrans

Akalúric: Akalúrhin
Akalúrhin (akalúrska)
Dalran: Akalúrere
Akalúrere (dalríska)
Þekkalic: Akalúrhein

The akalúrans1 are one of the cultures within the empire of Dalra, their traditional territory is along the upper Namazús River in the western Zúdalikí Desert. While known for their colourful pottery and detailed frescoes, relatively little of their culture remains compared to the cousins, the Þekkals.

History

Early history of the akalúrans is generally the same as that of the þekkals, both were originally hunters and shepherds in the desert who traded with the people along the Namazús River in exchange for letting their flocks graze by its banks. As the ancient civilization of the Ilaxarans -a major power in the region during bronze age- began to decline, the two peoples invaded the lands by the river, akalúrans conquered the upper river while the þekkals the lower river and its delta.
The akalúran became very attached to their place along the Namazús River and since their kings were vary of outsiders, the akalúrans became a particularly warlike society who treated their enemies and especially captives with excessive cruelty in order to scare off potential rivals. This eventually became their downfall, as when the akalúrans were finally defeated by the Dalrans, they had become so hated that most of their cities were left in ruin and very little of their culture now remains, and has mostly merged with that of the þekkals and dalrans.

Culture

Apparel

Traditional akalúran clothing is generally similar to þekkal ones, with men wearing a short, belted tunic with often colourful sash worn under the belt, and women wear a dress of similar make along with a shawl, all made of wool. Wealthy men sometimes wear a wide, fringed cloth collar as a sign of rank, though this is rare nowadays.
Like þekkals, akalúran men are responsible for weaving clothes.
Men and women alike braid their hair, and long beards are popular.

Art

Pottery
Akalúran pottery is among the few prominent aspects of their culture which survives to this day, often beautifully painted and shaped like animals or human heads, ranging from stylized to very realistic style.

Cuisine

Akalúran cuisine reflects their early days as shepherds and hunters, consisting mostly of wheat bread, mutton, fish and fowl, and wild game, as well as grasshoppers and honey. Wine and corn beer are the most common beverages, both of which are traditionally only brewed by women.

Religion

Major deities

Baxas
Baxas is a creator god, similar to the dalran Þetexales.
Dúrrúkes
Dúrrúkes is the akalúran version of Dúnrúkes of the þekkals, once protector of the royal family, he's now associated with warfare and headhunting. Akalúrans nowadays offer clay jars shaped like decapitated heads in his honour, filled with incense which is burned and later buried in certain places, as the original rituals are considered too gruesome by the dalrans.
Þagúrra
Þagúrra is the main fertility goddess of the akalúrans.
