Yule's Heart
Yule’s Heart is the northernmost region of Olivia. Being north finds it colder than other regions and hence is mainly cold and hard grassland. There is a notable division between the eastern and western regions – the west being heavily wooden and rapidly becoming highlands as it ventures north with bodies of waters between its peaks; the east being much drier and unfertile apart from area close to rivers and bodies of water. Yule’s Heart is also home to the largest lake, the Dwarven Sea, which runs off into the Yuletyde sea by the river Aarian.
To the east, the Faustian Peaks cut off the Norlands. The region extends all the way to the western coast that touches the Autumnal Sea. Southwest lies F’yore, beyond Yule’s Pass and the Froix Mountains, and southeast behind the Elpan Mountains sits Lamércia. These two mountain ranges are in fact connected by a wall known as Winter’s Wall that has a settlement built around its main gate at Noedalle. This wall was in fact used long ago to separate the “civilised” lands of F’yore and the Vintalands. However, on the Empire’s expansion the Vintafolk were pushed north out of their original settlements amongst the Skrivenslat Forest. The wall is no longer maintained as a border due to the expansion of settlements around it.
Many settlements in the Hvit Forest gained economic strength with the Valyean Empire's efforts, but before were a treacherous set of roads with settlements sparse. The Valyean Empire put effort into building the roads to assist in their campaigns and military movements and have become integral to movements between the eastern and western parts.
Geography
Towards the west is the Skrivenzlat Forests, a thick set of woods that are home to many northern species of woods. The woods stretch up to the limit of the Vintaflans where the Vintafolk currently make their home in the peaks that are scattered toward the north. These grow closer knit into the Froix Mountains that run south, marking the natural border between F'yore and Yule's Heart. These mountains are noted for being colder and very dangerous but a few major routes are noted to allow for quicker, if more dangerous, passage between them. Attempting to sail around the Vintaflans is objectively disapproved and can be difficult to navigate with its proximity to the North Pole.
In the east, the Hvit Forest sprouts about the river Frecht, but thins out into the Hvit Blad, a large amount of infertile plains that are incredibly difficult to cultivate. Olav's Arm is a peninsula that sprouts north from the Frost Hills and is largely uninhabited apart from a small trading port at its end. The Hvit Blad borders the Dwarven Sea, a large lake that supports trade across it between lakeside towns and cities. The lake runs off into the Yuletyde Sea using the river Aarian, which has no bridges meaning boats are the only way to navigate the lands either side, otherwise you would need to traverse around and into the Elpan mountains.
The Elpan Mountains run south and up east into the Faustian Peaks creating the natural border against Lamércia in the south and the Norlands in the east. The Elpan mountains are not as difficult as the Froix Mountains but still only has a few routes of passage. Hidden in the Faustian peaks lies the city of DryDry fiercly politically and economically independent.
Ecosystem Cycles
In the summer, the lands of Yule's Heart thaw and grow softer, but in the winter the lands are hard and harsh. There is very little time for spring and autumn, and so are actively celebrated when they occur. The best time to farm and cultivate the lands is during the summer. Fishing is considered the better option in the winter.
