Chancellor
The position of Chancellor is one of several Council positions common at every level throughout The Kingdom of Somercrag. They are responsible for maintaining diplomatic relations between the council and its vassals, parent organisations and neighbours.
Although the position of Chancellor does not require much academic education it does require the holder to be well versed in Somercragian politics, and often involves writing letters and invitations. As a result it is generally held by someone of noble birth.
Council Actions
Each month the Chancellor may be directed to take one of the following actions. Bolded actions require the Chancellor's presence for the month, making them unavailable for any other duties.- Fill Position - The Chancellor spends the month pursuing candidates for a specific position the council requires. This might be a council position, a mayor or something similar. Candidates found are likely to be highly connected, and while all candidates will be capable of performing the role, the Chancellor will prioritise well connected and socially adept individuals over those with aptitude.
- Find Position - The Chancellor spends the month using their network of contacts to find suitable positions for people the council chooses. This is most often used to find positions where a child might become a Ward, Squire, Lady-in-waiting and so on, but might also be used to find suitable employment for craftspeople or any other individuals a council might need to find a place for.
- Arrange Visitors - The Chancellor spends the month negotiating with a particular target Kingdom/Duchy/Holding/Organisation/Individual/etc for either themselves or a representative to attend the court. This will not necessarily be immediate. The Chancellor may require an investment of Revenue and/or time to prepare a suitable event.
- Arrange Visit - The Chancellor spends the month negotiating with a particular target Kingdom/Duchy/Holding/Organisation/Individual/etc for either their Lord/Lady, their Steward or Proxy to visit them. This will not necessarily be immediate. The Chancellor may require an investement or Revenue and/or time to arrange a suitable event and transportation.
- Match Courtiers - The Chancellor spends the month drawing upon their network of contacts attempting to find potential courtships for people the council chooses.
- Attract Courtiers (Any) - The Chancellor performs a Chancellor skill vs ddd check and attracts a number of individuals to court. This check may be influenced by spending Revenue to upgrade the check. It will also be influenced by recent events as well as the perceived opportunities for personal glory or promotion. Attracted individuals may be any kind of individual that could be attracted by the actions of other Council members. This may also involve an event, such as hosting a Tourney, a Noble Hunt or other similar activites.
- Training (Social) - The Chancellor spends the month training an individual's social skills. At the end of the month they take a Chancellor skill vs the target's relevant skill. If they fail nothing happens, if they succeed the chosen skill increases by 1 (to a maximum of 5). For each additional s or every aa they may increase another social skill that begins lower than the chosen skill, or gain a relevant Knowledge skill. For each h they suffer 1 Strain.
