The Light-Eater
The Light-Eater was a powerful Shade encountered in Castle Street Square in The Deephaunt. It was initially encountered in a ruined church off the square, and was driven out by Sister Katriana Whitewind. It continued to prowl the area around the square until it was defeated in The Battle of Castle Street Square.
The Light-Eater was physically quite different to even very degenerated Shades, with a long serpentine tail replacing its lower body. It sported six arms. The humanoid part of its body was approximately twice the size of a normal person, and the serpentine part extended perhaps a further thirty feet below that, although it was usually coiled under the humanoid portion rather than extended. It also featured a number of thin membranes extending from its head, along its spine and along the back of its arms.
Abilities
The Light-Eater demonstrated a number of unique abilities:- As the name suggests, the Light-Eater was not affected by light sources in the same way as other Shades. It instead was able to freely enter lit areas without having its form made solid.
- It was also able to turn normal flames into Blackstone Flames.
- The membranes on its body seemed to be very sensitive to sound, picking up vibrations from the air. This made it very effective at hunting by sound.
Weaknesses
The membranes on the Light-Eater's body also made it vulnerable to particularly loud or cacophonous noise. It was eventually defeated by using the bell from the ruined church it had originally used as its lair, which had the same solidifying effect on the Light-Eater as light sources have on other Shades.
