Structure
The Ring of Knives is led by Eyla Crane, a former member of House Crowler's household staff. As a fairly small band of men-at-arms they do not have any other commanders, and since Eyla does not take the field herself they usually fall under the direct command of whomever has hired their service. The Ring of Knives has grown since they were first formed, and now has Captains who issue its orders in the field.

History
While it may have been informally organised at some point earlier, the first action taken by the members of the Ring of Knives as an organisation was on the Third of March 442KS when they slipped away from the camps outside of Southbay city - some hidden amongst the House Foxworth troops being dismissed to Fairstrand, some slipping into the city or into the surrounding wilds, to regroup some days later well outside their would-be liege's lands.
