The Roil
Legend says that at the centre of The Influence of The Black Sun, The Black Sun itself sits in a circle of water that bucks and roils as though it is in a pan over a fire, bubbling and boiling and casting off plumes of steam where it contacts the Black Sun. That place is called The Roil.
It is further said that Admiral Voss Blackhand sailed one night out of The Roil aboard her ship The Midnight Sun, both burned and blackened by touching The Black Sun themselves. The scorched and blackened hull of her ship are true enough, the fittings around the prow twisted and sloughed as though made molten by a great heat. And as for the Admiral her hand, or its absence, speaks for itself.
Regardless of the truth of her brush with The Black Sun, Admiral Voss has succeeded in single-handedly unifying a great number of ships under her command, and the sight of The Black Ships of The Roil is enough to strike fear into any other ship that strays too close to The Inner Influence of The Black Sun and catches their attention.
