Cult of The Mortician

The Cult of the Mortician has it's home in Ondessa where they have now rule the city as it's benevolent guides and teachers of their way, the cult has always been generous in their gifts and aid to masses, caring for little else than blood which many have accepted as tribute to the Cult, as they once paid tribute to the Mage Lords.

Closer To God

Though the Morticians do not revere death itself, they do see it as way to come closer to god, they seek a place between this plane and the next, so that they can be closer to their god while remaining in the physical world to serve him.

Rites

Rebirth

All those who are initiated fully into the cult have died, for those who are truly part of the inner circle must meet god, a common ritual is to be drowned in a bowl of blood, giving them a brief moment to meet The Mortician before they are revived and brought back, giving them new insight into both life, death and their place in between.   Indeed most Morticians have died many times, either in ritual to converse with god or on the field and brought back from dead, leaving a little piece of themselves with The Mortician each time they are called back, leaving them closer to death.

Thanks to the Unborn

A small rite given to the Aspect of the Unborn, one leaves a bowl of blood in his name and utters a small prayer of thanks or other small message one wishes given to god, after which a small line of blood is drawn on the ridge of ones nose and the rest of the bowl is drunk.   [3]The Churning A great ritual bown is brought, one with a very small siv at it's button, after which a circle of participants are made, each uttering a vow, prayer or tenant to The Mortician and let some of their blood into it, participants then keep doing so, to ensure the flow of blood continues for as long as possible.

Structure

The Cult has a relatively loose organizational structure, having never been a truly vast organization, they have always been a tightly knit brotherhood of warriors. But with the influx of initiates it has structured itself into somewhat of an inner circle and an outer circle, to ensure that newer followers are not given unnecessary insight they may not have been ready to handle.   As such the Cult is structured into the twice born, the inner circle of the cult, and the Unborn.

The Twice Born

Amongst the Twice Born all are equals, for they have each been received by god, and thus no mortal positions can truly divide them anymore.

The Herald

The Herald is a largely symbolic position to resemble the initial contract between The Mortician and the cult, thus the Heralds swears to relinguish personal identity and don the armor of the founder, their only connection can now be with god, and therefor it is believed that his faith and connection is the purest.

Reborn Speaker

The Reborn are entrusted with heading a local section of the cult, they must manage the affairs of the local church and it's followers, they are the public face of the cult in it's local area of operations. They are often the head of ceremonial processions and rites, they rarely serve in contracts unless the situation demands it. Instead they are expected to train and teach the newer members and make them ready to become speakers.

Speaker

Speakers are those who are entrusted with handling the contracts given to the church, though this is the most common rank amongst the mortician, there is immense trust placed upon these individuals for they are the representatives of the church and must handle their tasks with great care, for their price is also a delicate one. A common saying amongst the speakers, is to serve the contract bearer as you would serve The Mortician himself.

Rite Holder

The Rite holders, are advisors and assistants to the reborn speaker, they assist mainly in collecting contracts and maintaining the archive and also help in ceremonies, rites teaching and training if the church is too large for a single speaker to handle.

Caretaker

Caretakers are speakers who do not wish to serve the Mortician with violence, instead they seek to aid those less fortunate than themselves, ofcourse they ask the same price as the speakers, but they seek to embody the mortician as the Unborn more than anything.

The Unborn

Newer members of the church, all those who have not yet been baptized, and therefor not part of the inner circle.

Enlightened

Those who are nearly done with their training and education in the cult, they will often assist the Caretakers and Speakers and as link between the church and the newer initiates.

Initiate

Members of the church in name only, souls who are either not quite prepared for a life of servitude of simply wish for the benifits that the cult can provide them in exchange for a bit of blood.

Public Agenda

They seek to bring glory to their god and to bring tithe to his name, they are willing to take on any contract so long as people are willing to pay in blood, wich either entails a set amount of vials or perhabs a child servant to supply their blood until freed by the cult.

History

The Cult has for most of it's existence have been roving mercenary, selling their blade to those willing to give the most of their essence to their god, but during the Harrowing they managed to become what they had never been, heroes, being led by a vision of their god to the city through the storm, they managed to save the last inhabitants of the city and in the aftermath, they were the saviors of the masses, gaining the cults it's first true stronghold and following.

Tenets of Faith

  • Seek not personal wealth; Seek only to serve in his name; And he shall serve in yours
  • Seek not personal glory; Seek only the glory of duty; And in duty you shall find him
  • The passions of this world is temporary gold, glory and love all shall wither without faith.
  • Only through service, only through contract shall we find salvation.
  • Only by service shall we become better, only through service to each other shall we ascend, only through service to him.

In life as in death; We serve
