Jarska Highlands
The northernmost region of the Ostfjorn, the Jarska Highlands is named for the small mountain pass which separates the regions from one another, beyond the pass are the Jarska lowlands, a patch of fertile and ride soil, but with little access to the sea as the ridge allows little safe access to the rich fishing waters. Though life is harsh here, there are some larger communities found along small pockets nestled against the mountain, sheltered from the biting winds, though most here dwell in small villages or alone in the great wilderness, taking logs south and pelts to traders to earn a living.
These lands are dominated by the great pine trees and the seemingly endless snowfall, only given a reprieve for a scant few months of the year. if not the northern cliff faces and rocky terrain that takes away the dense woods.
Ecosystem
The lands are dominated by heavy forests and the great cold that would kill most life in the area, the wildlife dominated by boars, wolves, reindeer, and foxes, rabbits and puffins, and the great red-tailed eagles. Bumblebees are also a common sight in the region.
The flora is mainly dominated by lichens and moss which can be found all over the great forests in large carpets, while trees mainly consist of the immense northern pine tree. Dominated the horizon, while various parasital plant life in great vines cling unto these pines which also grow some berries which are common eating in the region, though some forestation projects have seen new plant life introduced to try and grow something to eat, of which a scant few fo far can withstand the cold.
In the short summer, this land undergoes a rabid change into a sprawling and dank mire, from the melted snow, as the lichen bloom and flowers grow so too do the dormant plantlife, becoming a verdant life for those few moments.
