Melvillai Sea

Wedged inbetween former Sarpadian Empire and the north-east of Hadean, lurks the dangerous Melvillai Sea.
Only a mere 500 years ago, the Melvillai was known for its relatively calm waters and shallow waters.
Following the cataclysm that marked the fall of the Sarpadian Empire, the seafloor came alive with violent volcanic activity. Huge methane plumes reached the surface, poisoning marine and non-aquatic life alike. The seawater rapidly heated up, deoxygenated and bacame acidic.
In the centuries since, the south-eastern part of the sea has largely recovered. The north-western portion of the sea still experiences regular volcanic activity and remains marginal for life. It is however common to experience powerful and hostile Elemental activity.
