The strange newcomers to Millfield, Pōtiki and Suiadan Innion quickly made themselves known at The Drunken Pilgrim Inn, Suiadan in particular causing quite the stir with his naivete about money and food and work while talking to the barkeep, Bandor Ashdelver. This sparked the attention and interest of inn patrons Horren Grumdor and Harthe. Suiadan tells Pō his name is Greg, and Horren that his name is Stollen. They are soon interrupted by a distressed half-elf looking for her husband. Sofi Larson reports that her husband Ryker Larson went on a hunt in the Taesai Woods a few days ago and hadn't been seen since. The adventurers offer to help for a reward of 50 gold pieces each and head to the Millfield Guild Hall to talk with members of the Millfield Hunters' Guild. They are greeted by Dimia Commonbrook who tells them Ryker went to the northern part of the woods to hunt for venison to bring back to the local butcher, Colman Stanfield. The adventurers head off to see Colman, some assuring Dimia that they'll find Ryker safe and well, others informing her he's probably dead, perhaps gored by a deer. Dimia seems confident he'll be back soon and tells them if they find him to tell him he owes her. When pressed, she says something about a game, but volunteers no further information. The adventurers head to the Millfield Markets. Suiadan is fascinated by the well. Harthe greets Colman at his stall, Cole's Cold Cuts. Colman doesn't have much more information for the adventurers as he leaves the hunting to the hunters and stays out of the woods, instead sticks with what he knows best, butchering and selling meat. Horren buys some meat from the stall and offers portions to the others, telling Suiadan to throw the meat away from him if they get attacked by wolves so that he has time to run away while they are distracted. Pōtiki buys pastries from Brynwold's Breads stall. The adventurers head off into the Taesai woods and eventually stumble on some clues of a struggle in the woods, a bloodied boot, and tracks leading to a small cave, hearing yells and calls for help from within. They march into the cave uncautiously and Horren sets off a tripwire trap receiving a few arrows to his arms and shoulder. They head further into the cave and are soon met with two growling gnolls. They start fighting, Suiadan's form changes as he uses an action to cast primal savagery, and a third gnoll turns up and starts firing arrows from further away. Harthe attempts to charm one of the gnolls but just confuses it. Horren and two of the gnolls get rather singed and damaged by a burning hands spell cast by Harthe. Suiadan slashes and kills one of the gnolls with his large claws. Pō dispatches another of the gnolls with a strike from their sickle. Harthe takes down the final gnoll with chromatic orb of fire and turns him into a pile of ash. Suiadan returns to his usual form. Horren seems very irritated at Harthe for singeing him, and Suiadan casts cure light wounds to help him out. The adventurers head further in a cave and see a large cauldron over a blazing fire and a tied up Ryker. Suiadan unties Ryker and starts harrassing him about "food circles". Ryker tells the only familiar face in the room to him - Harthe, about how the gnolls were going to cook and eat him. The all head to Ryker and Sofi's house and Ryker expresses his gratitude to the party for rescuing him. Harthe apologises to Horren for setting him on fire and Horren joked that he can call him Kindling. The name sticks as he hasn't formally introduced himself to anyone with his actual name. Suiadan informs everyone that his name is "Shoe". The party sticks with this iteration of his introduced names. Pōtiki introduces themself as Pō. Sofi is not at home but Ryker hears from the others about how they were promised a reward, and gives each of the party 50 gold pieces. They all then head to The Drunken Pilgrim for dinner except Shoe who runs to the guild hall to report that "WE FOUND THE MAN" and then runs to The Drunken Pilgrim to join the others. Sofi is overjoyed to see the group was successful and offers them each another 20 gold pieces even though Ryker has already paid the promised reward. Ryker tells the party they are welcome to come by the guild hall and check out their armory and would be given a discount rate if they want to join the hunter's guild as he is the head of the guild. Harthe gets distracted when he notices Kai Rhodes gets oddly clumsy and behaves strangely around Aedwen Polforth and gets greater portions of ale served to her than everyone else, and Bandor complains about getting too many cabbages given to them by Aedwen. The party conclude that Kai and Aedwen must secretly be dating. Kindling and Shoe visit the local temple and are greeted by Brynn Foster who asks if they are here to worship. Shoe asks if Brynn worships the moon. He says no, but all are welcome to worship whatever and whoever they please. Shoe declines and leaves to go back to the pub. Horren asks for healing and to be cleaned up after the party's battle in the woods. Brynn asks for a donation for their services and Horren gives a generous donation of the 9 gold pieces that he had received from Shoe earlier. He is restored to full health and cleaned up before returning to the pub. He orders a room upstairs from Bandor. Shoe asks the party about the sun and they tell him that it will be up the next day outside. Shoe goes outside and passes out drunk near the outhouse to wait for the sun. The party is mildly concerned that they don't know where he went, but decide to head upstairs to their separate rooms to sleep instead.
