Dhimashino, The Orphan of Death

The Orphan of Death

Dhimashino is one of the 8 Orphans of the Orufensu Pantheon, the most widely worshiped Pantheon in The Five Kingdoms. Dhimashino's divine domains are death and grave. Their portfolio includes the Nomidian Calander, nomidian divorce, the death of Nomidians, souls of Nomidians, and the Nomidian afterlife. They are the oldest of their full-blood siblings. Long before the War in Heaven and their ascension to godhood, Dhimashino was said to be an eccentric explorer and idealist who bonded well with their family, even their half-siblings Corellon Larethian and Gruumsh, but they had changed one day after returning from the Outer Realms. Now dispassionate, solem, and incapable of maintaining even a flaccid conversation. Nolosha was able to get them to speak a little about what had happened, and all Dhimashino said was "I have seen the grey cycle in its entirety."   All of Dhimashino's depictions are uniform, a white-robed figure with infinite blackness under the hood. The skeletal hands grasp a wooden shepherd's staff. Dhimashino has never been recorded to have visited Iskudar, not even in avatar form. The Orphan of Death lacks a uniform holy symbol, instead, each symbol taken up to represent them is entirely reliant on the faith of its beholders. This is because Dhimashino never forged a holy stigmata, even when put against the threat of violence by their younger sister Dufaan. The Titan of Magic instructed that to pull a divine spark from the Ever Well Spring a Stigmata would be required, but Dhimashino walked to the well and reached into it with their bare hands and pulled an oily black spark from amidst the swirling energy of creation and annihilation. Everyone looked on in disbelief, even Mystra. Later other celestials attempted this and they all perished violently, making this a very strange and mysterious event.   Dhimashino has two "children" Dilka and Xabaal. Instead of being spawned from Dhimashino's seed, Dilka, and Xabaal are claimed to be aspects of divinity that Dhimashion removed from themselves to remain entirely impartial. Both are passionate and full of energy and zeal like their parent used to be. Dilka did not believe in the "cycle" the way Dhimashino did. While Dhimashino spoke of a cycle of ever-renewing beginnings and ends, Dilka thought there could be a way to remove the "ends" of cycles and instead create everlasting new beginnings. This outlook on life led them to be forgiving, passionate, and interested in granting immortality to mortal creatures free of the strings of the divine. Dhimashino neither dismissed nor embraced Dilka's thinking and simply left them to their devices, but Xabaal could not tolerate the blasphemy of their sister. Xabaal, a firm believer in the strict separation of death and life in the grand cycle their parent spoke of, defied Dilka's attempts to explore the concept of immortality for everyone. In the end, Xabaal exposed Dilka and their unholy necromancy to Dufaan who ordered them exiled from the pantheon on pain of death. In an unheard-of occurrence, Dhimashino is said to have muttered "No. . .why. . ." when the sentence was passed but did not repeat what they said even under the orders of Dufaan. Now Xabaal and Dilka's followers fight an eternal struggle, all while their parent looks on dispassionately.   Dhimashino has the smallest number of devout followers but boasts the strongest number of worshipers of the entire pantheon. Every Nomidian dies at some time, and these Nomdians pray to Dhimashino to guide their souls to the afterlife and judge them favorably. People also pray to Dhimashino at the end of harsh periods of their life, or the start of bright periods. Nomidian shepherds worship Dhimashino due to their domain including cycles, such as the grazing cycles they follow every year. Farmers do the same with the cycle of their crops, wishing for the cycle to remain unbroken. People also pray to Dhimashino for impartialness or guidance on professional issues that have personal elements. People find comfort in the inevitability or cyclical nature of things, and Dhimashino provides this comfort with their divine presence or blessings of clarity.

The Grey Cycle

The grey cycle was not a term used before it was spoken by Dhimashino and many scholars are still not entirely sure what it refers to. Even in the defacto holy book of devout Dhimashino followers, The Grey, Blue, and Gold Cycles, the grey cycle remains very briefly and sloppily characterized and explained. The followers of Dhimashino claim that it's one of those things that you simply understand or you don't, a very dissatisfying answer to many. Some though, do have a more speculative explanation. Dhimashino first spoke of the grey cycle after returning from the Outer Realms, a planer-logical location inhabited by creatures of completely alien minds and the enigmatic Elder Gods. Perhaps the grey cycle is simply an incomprehensible concept to non-celestial or indivine minds

Shepard of Souls

People worship the Orufenzu Pantheon by making offers to all of the gods and praying to them depending on what they are praying for. General prayers are often delivered with no particular god in mind. Those who pray to Dhimashino often do so out of desperation, knowing that their prayers won't be answered as they cling to their dying life or grip the hand of a passing loved one. People also pray to him to ask that the souls of themselves of their loved ones be taken to the correct afterlife, as Dhimashino's Manjo Gosadi angles are said to be responsible for delivering people's souls correctly. They are even said to deliver souls to the afterlives of other pantheons, one can imagine the problems this might cause among the more jealous pantheons should this claim be true.
