Session 4 - Pandemonium in Ormos
General Summary
Soldiers approach the marketplace as the riot intensifies. Many revelers with thyrsi in hand begin pummeling people in the crowd. A large centaur makes its way into the crowd, eyes a soldier, and runs them through with her spear. Another soldier approaches, and the centaur hits him with its hooves. Mayhem and chaos erupt as the soldiers start attacking the revelers. Lenora makes her way to the edge of the riot. Ischyrós attempts to conceal himself behind a barrel, but the only thing he is hiding is his ability to hide.
Meanwhile, inside the gem dealer's stall, Theresa Mellaniphe begins to leave. Pyro follows suit, but not before eyeing two pieces of lead he can steal. Abraxas remains inside, determined to find the pearl he was looking for. The associate of the stall owner attempts to stab Abraxas but misses as the others leave him behind. Oblivious to the riot, Pyro sees the centaur in the middle of the market. The centaur is carrying a wineskin, and Pyro resolves to make a new friend and starts toward it. It tramples its second soldier and heads toward the gem stall, almost running Pyro over. An unshaken Pyro hears Lenora calling him, and he heads her way.
Abraxas is all but abandoned in the store but remains true to his quest as he searches for the pearl. Theresa, seeing a centaur barreling towards the store, pops in to warn Abraxas. The merchant stabs at Abraxas again, but unlike last time connects with his blade. Abraxas is significantly hurt. He calls out in his booming voice, asking for help. Lenora and Pyro are debating the centaur's danger when they hear Abraxas's voice. They follow the large creature into the gem dealer's stall to help Abraxas. Pyro realizes that his master’s fate is in the hands of a dying man and rushes to save him.
Inside the stall, Theresa causes the merchant to become covered in frost suddenly. He is also covered in bees, but seems resistant to their stingers. The centaur sees the enraged merchant attacking seemingly innocent people and attempts to defend them. The soldiers eye the centaur and begin heading toward the store. Ischyros, hiding in plain sight, seeing the commotion and hearing Abraxas' voice, begins heading towards the stall. Abraxas uses his dove to distract the owner. Lenora heads to the back to find Abraxas. Pyro and the centaur exchange niceties, and he, along with his companions, learn her name is Xenobia. Xenobia asked Pyro if he had stolen his name. Xenobia then dispatches the merchant with her spear.
Two soldiers enter; one stabs Xenobia, and the other stabs Pyro. Pyro runs to the back of the store to hide in a coffer. Ischyros is stopped by the third soldier, but he is distracted by the goings on inside the stall, and is promptly hit from behind with a bag of rocks by the Ammayati. In the back, Lenora asks Abraxas if he has found the pearl, but then spots one, and drops it in her shoe. Theresa sics the bees on the soldiers but also convinces them that she is a healer, as she attempts to stabilize the fallen merchant while suing for peace. The soldier overhearing the conversation while chasing Pyro enters the back room and stabs Abraxas. Abraxas starts bleeding and is unresponsive. A shadow falls over Abraxas as his luck seems to have run out, with the gods turning their back on him.
Outside, Ischyros subdues the guard with his bag of rocks and immediately abandons his companions to look for a ship. Inside, a soldier stabs Xenobia, and she also falls to the ground. In the back, Lenora summons her inner thespian and explains to the soldiers that they are looking for clams as she waves her fish before him. Though perhaps unconvinced by her story, the soldier nevertheless agrees to allow her to leave with her friend. Just then, Pyro pops out of a coffer, staring off into the distance as he opens the lid. Lenora claims the satyr is drunk, but the first soldier orders her to lead Pyro out. Abraxas manages to still hold on to life as the second soldier walks in and takes the stunned Pyro with him.
Theresa attempts to stabilize Xenobia but is having trouble understanding centaur anatomy. The battle-forged centaur is tough, and ceases to bleed on her own accord. Theresa then turns her attention to Abraxas and heals him. They tend to their wounds and resolve to head to Abraxas’ home. Meanwhile, Ischyros finds a ship captain, and they agree on a fair price for the party to sail to his homeland in exchange for the bracelet he stole. Ischyros heads to the brothel to find Lenora, but she is not there. Pyro, dazed and abandoned by his party, is lead away by the two soldiers, and thrown in a cage. He attempts to pick a lock to no avail. It the next cage is the satyr from their first day in Ormos (who also claims the name Pyro. They talk about names and hammers, but like most conversations with Pyro, it spans many stadia but goes nowhere.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crew rely on Abraxas’ divination skills to find Spyridon. Abraxas determines that the necklace and tooth found near the docks are Spyridon’s, but they cannot locate him. It is also determined that Spyridon is not heading toward Ischyros’ homeland. They debate their next steps.
Pyro is set free by revelers, who seem to have taken over the entire town. Before he can get into trouble snags a bottle of wine and seeks his cart. Unable to find his cart, he heads to Abraxas’ house. There, he also uses divination and finds that Spyridon is on the ship that sailed away yesterday. While the crew debates if heading up the coast, sailing to the nearest city, or heading to the capital are the best options, people near Abraxas' abode begin to shout and seek shelter: King Pentheus up in Rabdos has mobilized his whole army, which attacked the encampment up at the cemetery, scattered the revelers, and started to pursue them to Ormos.
