Rachel Genome- Smith

Rachel is Raphaels mother. She is a brilliant scientist who originally came to the world of Kairothia III to study the Flora and Fauna. She was intrigued by the presence of advanced life forms on the world, including the Kairothian race.
When the Federation of Earth fell to the Celestial Empire, she along with the other scientists became stranded. While they certainly had the ability to leave, it was too dangerous to partake in interstellar travel, lest they encounter a hostile Celestial ship and give away their position. When a refugee ship containing many civilians and a legion of Genome Project super soldiers arrived, she was happy to see that there were survivors. She fell in love with a Genome Project soldier named "Raphael" and she gave birth to a boy, and named him "Raphael", after his father.
Rachel loved her son, but also regretted having him. The Human race was effectively doomed. While things were safe for the moment, she knew that there was no telling if or when the Celestial Empire would eventually find this world, and if they would simply kill everyone when they took over. Nevertheless, she still tries to give her son the good life that he deserves.

Personal history

Rachel grew up during the height of the Federation of Earth. She was greatly inspired by the rapid expansion of the repertoire of discovered worlds, and she wanted to be a part of it. Since most habitable worlds had some sort of life forms already on them, she decided to take University classes on Biology, in hopes that she would one day be able to visit a new world and study its biology. She graduated with top marks. When the world of Kairothia III was discovered, she jumped at the chance.
Together with the other scientists, they set up a semi-permanent settlement on Kairothia III. They discovered a sapient species called the Kairothians, and they developed a good relationship with the Saiyannor Village.
When the Celestial Empire toppled the Federation of Earth, it became too dangerous to leave the Kairothia III. Rachel and the other scientists had to come to terms with being trapped on the world, likely for the rest of their lives. A few months later, a ship containing several thousand Human civilians and a legion Genome Project soldiers arrived. The scientists made contact with the survivors, where they discovered how bad the Celestial Empire had been treating Humanity. The Celestials were indiscriminately killing humans any Human, soldier or civilian. They hoped that the Celestial Empire would never discover the world of Kairothia III.
Some Genome Project solder veterans decided to live with the scientists, including one named Raphael. Raphael and Rachel fell in love, and had a son, which they also named "Raphael", after his father. Rachel and Raphael regretted having Raphael Jr. They believed that being trapped on this world, they were setting him up to live a miserable life. Nevertheless, they tried to give Raphael a pleasant life like he deserved.

Education

Rachel has a PHD in Biology, and Cellular Biology.

Employment

Rachel was employed as a researcher for the Kairothia III expedition.

Mental Trauma

Learning of the fall of the Federation of Earth was terrifying for her, especially after learning of how frightening the Celestial Empire was.

Morality & Philosophy

Rachel believes in second chances, forgiveness, and random acts of kindness. She isn't a pacifist, but she believes that peaceful resolutions to conflicts are always preferred to violent ones if possible. She believes you should treat people the way you want to be treated.
