Hoshi Bastion

Thought it has a number of names, the gigantic wall complex guarding the city of Edo is formally named after it's chief architect, Hatsumi Hoshi III, who completed the massive project over a twenty three year period.

From end to end, the wall stretches an astonishing two hundred and sixty seven miles, and varies in height from twelve to over thirty feet tall.

In all, more than 25million tons of stone, brick, and mud make up the massive defensive complex separating Edo from the horrors of Erenoc, which the wall was built to protect from.

Purpose / Function

As the nearby city of Erenoc grew in power, Emperor Kinmei began to view the city as a military threat, and focused the considerable efforts of his people on the defense of their budding civilization.

Over the course of a few years, several minor skirmishes between the Drow and the Gnomes took place, but these seemingly inconsequential events soon had world-changing results; these battles directly led to the plans being drawn up and the eventual construction of Hoshi Bastion, as an attempt by the Emperor and the Taishō to protect their people from what they viewed as their greatest threat.

Twenty three years later, built on the backs of thousands of workers and the deaths of hundreds more, the Bastion was finally completed.

Defenses

Aside the parapets and massive stone construction, the wall itself is manned and patrolled at all hours, providing physical protection from any perceived threat.  Mounted ballista are laid out in regular intervals, as well as some of the larger observation towers being equipped with large onager or trebuchets.

The wall itself is open in three places, large gatehouses that still allow trade and travel through; these gates are known as the Dragon, Snake, and Ox gates, and they are heavily defended and under tight security; hundreds of Gnomes defend these access points, ensuring that the undead horrors of Erenoc can not penetrate into their city.
