Ossuary of Alcedene

"The Ossuary of Alcedene stands as a stark reminder of all three whens: Before, Alcedene was a thriving boomtown full of life and hope and promise, a reward for war-weary heroes who fought for their futures against giants and worse. Now, it is a village of leather-necked warriors with day jobs, staring out at the green frontier with more determination than hope. And the almost inevitable future, when the greenskins get it together and pour over The Barrier Mountains like a great veridian tidal wave."   ~Margrave Arronax Skinner

Purpose / Function

Ossuaries are where commongraves are kept, that is to say it is where the bodies of those who could not afford to be preserved and buried in individual graves are interred.

Alterations

Once, Alcedene was a boomtown. It's population was much larger than it is now, and it saw true success. Then, Lake Hope was destroyed and conditions became tough. Multiple Greenskin incursions and wars, harsh frontier life, and the occasional plague has seen to an oversized ossuary relative to the size of the settlement.

Architecture

A one room log cabin with a loft sits overtop the ossuary. This is where wakes are held, and where the manerray meets guests and sells herbs.   A spiral staircase leads up to the loft, where Keel Blackstone sleeps.   The staircase also leads down into the main shaft of the ossuary, which extends 60 ft. down. The entirety of the shaft is lined with the commongrave bones. Twelve large rooms branch off from the main shaft. These rooms range from 20 x 45 to 60 x 75. Landis Blackstone uses the uppermost as his quarters, which happens to be the largest (The room houses the bones of the victims of the Greenskin Invasion of Year 601.   In the bottommost room, 35x35, Zinzi Krahe claims her space. This room was dug for and filled with remains of the local Alcadeneans recovered from the Doomed Crusade of Year 987.
