Camvam

Camvam is the chief settlement of the Dolobei and the seat of Touser Dolobeiia

Government

Camvam is ruled the the Tous, who is a hereditary noble. He (the Tous is always male) appoints a cabinet of advisors who oversee various functions throughout is domain, including in the city of Camvam.

Defences

The Harbor Defenses

Camvam sits on a small bay. It is mostly enclosed by a defensive wall with ballista towers every three hundred feet. A large opening on the southern end can be closed via a massive harbor chain, which is lifted from the seabed for defensive purposes. The Ministry of Defense periodically maintains and performs test operations of the harbor chain and the capstans that raise and lower it.

The City Proper

About eight percent of the city is enclosed within a ten-foot thick, fifty-foot high wall. It is set with ballista towers every three hundred feet around its perimeter. There three strong gates into the city, the Harbor Gate, which leads out to the Harbor; the Inland Gate, through which passes High Street, which, in turn becomes the Daccian Way, leading to Atesi; and the Coastal Gate, through which Coast Street passes where it becomes the Biatian Way, leading south to Avul, then on to Apcotun.

Industry & Trade

Camvam does extensive trade with the Dragonborn, Dvaer, Robussin, and Rock Gnome people to the north, as well as significant commerce with the cities of Avul and Apcotun to the south. A smaller amount of trade flows inland via the Daccian Way, but this amounts to less than ten percent of overall trade through the city.

In terms of trade goods, Camvam produces little, but it is well located to serve as a port-of-call for resupply of ships plying the coast. As such many traders will ship to or from Camvam as an intermediate port.

Infrastructure

In order to remain in power, rather than being replaced by an Utepavir, the Tous works hard to maintain public order. One means he uses to do so is by building and maintaining a significant pody of public works.

Streets

All streets and alleys within the walls of Camvam are paved with basalt flags. The Ministry of Commerce is responsible for the maintenance of this pavement. Primary and secondary streets are repaired annually, with alleys and tertiary streets repaired once every decade. Primary streets are thirty feet wide, secondary streets are around fifteen feet wide. Tertiary streets are eight to ten feet wide. Anything narrower than eight feet is considered an alleyway.

Sanitation

High Street, which runs from the Inland Gate to Harbor Street, features a wide, stone-lined, open sewer. Sanitation workers for the Ministry of Health gather waste products from secondary and tertiary streets and either flush it into the sewer or haul it out to the city's midden heap to the south. Cleanliness and sanitation of alleyways is left to the residents whose homes and businesses are adjacent to them. Often, though not always, these alleyways are left filthy in the poorer areas of town, as there is insufficient labor capacity to maintain them.

Harbor

Camvam's harbor features a spidery network of wooden piers and stone quays that jut into the Chaanzhar Ocean in a haphazard fashion. In spite of their unplanned nature, they are all very well maintained by the Harbormaster's Office, which is a division of the Ministry of Commerce.
