Legio I Veriadenna serves as the dedicated guardian force of the Atreshian Empire's capital, Veriadenna. Under the command of Legate Nerva Rulianus, the legion is unique in its singular focus on defense and internal stability, rather than being used for external conquests or expansions.
As a double-strength legion, Legio I Veriadenna is the largest military formation in the entire Empire, boasting a remarkable 10,000 legionaries. This force is further augmented by a robust support structure of 600 officers, 240 cavalrymen, 3,000 servants and non-combatants, as well as 4,000 pack animals.
The legion's primary mission revolves around the security and defense of the capital. Members of this elite force are often among the first to receive any advancements in military technology or tactics. The legionaries don highly ornate armor, a symbol of their special status within the imperial hierarchy. The recruitment criteria are notably stringent. The legion is an all-human force and each recruit must meet several specific criteria: they must be citizens, men, stand at least six feet tall, and display exceptional physical fortitude.
Though it holds a position of deep respect within the inner sanctums of Atreshian governance, Legio I Veriadenna often finds itself viewed as a pampered force by other legions. This perception is fueled not just by its specialized ceremonial roles, such as serving as honor guards during diplomatic and state functions, but also because of its non-participation in external military campaigns.
