Neptune
Neptune is the eighth and outermost planet of the Sol System. It is named for the old Human god Neptune, a deity of the seas. The planet is a gas giant with a moderate moon system and rings, though generally considered to be much less impressive than those of Saturn. While the planet, like the other gas giants of the Sol System, is mined for hydrogen, helium, and other critical resources, many research facilities are located either above Neptune, within its atmosphere, or on the surface of its largest moon, Triton. The significant distance from Sol is noted to create a psychological atmosphere of privacy and loneliness, and the planetary system is often used as a place of exile. The construction of an orbital of the Sol Habitat Complex has proven to be vital in maintaining long-term mental health for crews working on stations around Neptune.
