Mythrite Crier
The Mythrite Crier is a large public bulletin board where town inhabitants post news stories, advertisements, want ads, job opportunities, and more. The Crier is maintained by a group of volunteers who do their best to vet the information being posted to ensure that there is nothing libelous, scandalous, or anything intended to incite violence against a group or individual. They also try to ensure that all postings are verified to be truthful and more than mere rumor or outright falsehoods.
In the early days of the town, the Crier started as an uncontroversial space mainly used for merchants to advertise their wares and for miners to post any specific equipment needs, as the market was a disordered array of crates and sacks. As the merchants settled into their stalls and the guild workers set up shop, the need for these types of postings decreased and the board became more of a record of arrivals and where newcomers settled. The pace of migration throughout the summer months made it unfeasible to maintain as the board became little else than a list of names, and some settlers did not want their names being broadcast to the rest of the town as more than a few were trying to start their lives over. Now the Crier serves as the primary news source about the happenings around town, similar in content to the daily broadsheets published in Waterdeep. While the board's custodians do their best to stick with the facts and have been known to revise people's postings for clarity, some of the town's inhabitants claim that the Crier has become politicized and only certain viewpoints are represented. Predictably, no one can agree on which viewpoints are favored and which are discriminated against. Grumbling aside, most people stop by the Crier at least once daily to get a sense of the goings-on around town.
