The Korf

Every town needs its slum, even one as small and new as Mythrite. The swampy marsh at Mythrite's southern border area has steadily advanced over decades, undermining and toppling the southeast section of the defensive wall, and limiting the southern expansion of the residential area. A few rows of squalid houses separate The Halberd and Hall of the Mountain Kings! from the swamp. This area is known as the Korf, named after the man found in the muck with his throat cut, the first confirmed murder in Mythrite.   The Korf is mostly populated by the poorest members of Mythrite who can afford no building materials and thus construct shacks and lean-tos from discarded materials and scavenging the ruins. Some people came to Mythrite dirt poor and with no prospects, hoping for a miracle that never happened. Others lost all they had on the journey and have no way to book safe passage home. Yet others have succumbed to alcohol and drugs due to stresses and rigor of daily life. The Korf reeks of desperation and failure, both literally and figuratively.   There is a verified Criminals element at work in Mythrite that operates in, but not from, the Korf. This includes rigged gambling, assault, murder-for-hire, and prostitution for those not able to find work in the more reputable locations in Entertainment District. Sadly, Korf was not the last dead body discovered in the marsh.
