Idros (EE drose)
God of the Sky
Idros, also known as The Watcher and Raincaller, is the God of the Sky. During the Great Formation, he created the atmosphere and the air that many creatures breathe. He is responsible for managing weather, and is often prayed to by farmers during the growing seasons. He is a peaceful and passive deity, preferring to observe and learn rather than act. He is the father of Sky Elves and the creator of birds, insects, and other winged creatures.
"Aspire to have the patience of Idros. There is valor in peace, and there is honor in mercy." - Aldernon the Wise
In the beginning, Idros was silent for thousands of years. Mestonia spent many decades trying to coax him to speak, but he would simply watch her and say nothing. He watched as Elsios built galaxies. He watched as Otia carefully constructed continents. He watched as Tassah filled the gaps with her oceans. The others were unsure what to do with him, and he eventually became isolated in his silence. He developed a unique quality; at first the other gods thought he simply moved quickly, but it soon became known that Idros was able to replicate himself and be in more than one place at once. This ability continued to grow until he completely wrapped his eyes around the developing world, and established a domain from which he could see all. In all his watching, Idros observed what the others had not. He saw Kebis beginning to blossom in his ability to create, he saw Lai'lou struggling to keep the trees and plants she made alive, and knew that something life-sustaining was missing. With his domain fully complete, he filled it with the missing piece: air. In doing so, he finally interacted with the others in the pantheon for the first time. He spoke, first with Lai'lou and then with Kebis, coordinating with them to aid their creations. When he saw them succeed, he returned to his quiet observation. He noticed Mestonia's radiance become overpowering, and so he built a protective shield so that just enough energy would reach Mytkora without burning it away. All that he did aided the others. With Kebis, he created the birds of the sky and millions of insects to provide the foundation of the food chain and to pollinate Lai'lou's crops. When Mestonia came to many of the gods and began organizing an attack on Yparxis, Idros was the only one to directly protest. He claimed that conflict and separation would cause more harm than good, and that words were needed before action. He was ignored. He watched silently as the other gods banished Yparxis from the material, ending The Calamity. He watched Didymos come back broken. He watched Tassah fade into darkness. He watched, and he mourned. Mestonia never spoke to him again. Mortalkind came later, but after some time he began to see the aggression and residual hostility from The Calamity affecting their mannerisms. He knew it was time for him to act in order to preserve their creations. He populated the tops of the mountains with Sky Elves, creating grand monasteries from which they would base their missionaries. A religion of mercy and patience developed, which began to slowly spread through Isatis and Atheles. The Silence eventually came, though his followers claim he is only waiting and watching. Most continue their mission in hopes of pleasing him, though there are some who have lost faith and integrated with the comparably materialistic and vice-loving sects of humanity.
