Gaural Plains

Geography

The Gaural Plains stretch between the Sullen Hinterlands to the west and the Iron Marches to the east, encompassing a vast expanse of rolling grasslands, verdant forests, and meandering rivers. This idyllic landscape is the heart of the Midlands, characterized by its gentle hills and fertile soil, which make it the most suitable region for agriculture and human settlement. The central location of the plains ensures that it is a crucial hub for trade routes and networks, linking the various regions of Muria.

Fauna & Flora

The Gaural Plains are home to a diverse array of flora and fauna. The grasslands are dotted with wildflowers and medicinal herbs like starblossom and healing sage, while the forests are thick with oak, maple, and ash trees. Fauna includes herds of wild deer, bison, and the occasional griffon soaring overhead. Smaller creatures like rabbits, foxes, and a variety of birds also thrive here. The rivers host otters, freshwater turtles, and fish such as trout and pike, which are vital for local diets and commerce.

Natural Resources

The Gaural Plains are rich in natural resources, providing a bounty of agricultural produce such as grains, vegetables, and fruits that feed much of Muria. The fertile soil supports extensive farmlands, while the forests offer timber and foraging opportunities. Rivers and streams crisscrossing the plains are teeming with fish, and the abundance of fresh water supports both farming and livestock. Additionally, the plains have modest deposits of iron and copper, which are mined to support local industries and trade.

History

The history of the Gaural Plains is one of prosperity and conflict. As the most densely populated region in Muria, it has been the site of numerous historical events, though it has only risen to prominence only recently. Stonehall, the most densely populated city in Muria, lies at the heart of the plains and serves as a political and economic center. The ruins of Karakorum, an Aaracockran Theocracy once part of the Murian Alliance, lie near the borders of the Frontier region to the south, razed during the 9th Doom. Scattered ruins of towns and villages, abandoned or corrupted by the Midnight Star, serve as reminders of past conflicts and the ever-present threat of bandits and the Midnight Horde. Despite these challenges, the Gaural Plains remain heavily policed by the Izeran Federation, ensuring relative stability and safety for its inhabitants.
