Calfein Helvit'tar
Calfein Helvit'tar
Calfein has been on the run from his families for years.
As the 8th child to the House of Helvit'tar ("Those Above Victory") he was free to persue whatever his heart desired...or so he thought. Turns out he was set up as the bargaining chip for an alliance between two houses. On his 80th birthday he was sent away to the Fre'ghym House ("Friends of the Forgotten Ways") to join the harem of the head matriarch, Luadra Fre'ghym.
He had yet to have the honor of meeting the matriarch and soon-to-be bride, when he had a chance encounter with her main consort, Im'dor of Fre'ghym. The two of them fell madly in love and decided to flee the house. They married in secret within a month and spent the next 5 years on the run. Unfortunately, the two were caught. The two were separated, thrown in jail, and set to be executed as an example. Calfein learned of his husband's death the day he was set to die.
On the way up to the platform, he realized that the bindings on his wrists were loose enough to pull apart. With a bit of trickery and maneuvering, Calfein managed to nab his late husband's lyre and escape. He ran as far as possible and took up busking as a way to get income. His charm managed to fetch him a fair number of fans and patrons. To this day he still thinks of his late husband, but with nearly 80 years to mourn, he has had time to come to peace with it.
Calfien spent about 20 years after his escape wandering from place to place, town to town, bed to bed. These were his most self-destructive years, where many mistakes were made, relationships botched, and exes were acquired. It was during those years that the musical skills his family had dismissed and looked down upon began to develop on their own. It was through busking that Calfein finally began to come into his own and find himself as an artist. Having originally been trained as a Wizard, Calfein suffered with rote memorization and dry old spellbooks, making up little songs to help him learn basic magic. It was while on his own that Calfein discovered that those songs held more magical power for him than the arcane incantations he'd struggled with.
Following his legendary triumph against Karyn Sandhime, Calfein has spent the last several months on his esteemed "Victory Tour". The tour has been successful enough for him to avoid that rarest of treasures, an apartment in the city where he roomies with Malcys. Their relationship is still finding its feet. Calfein has also adopted Eggliott, a stray cat.
His latest single, "Your Mom", has become an overnight smash. Followed shortly by "Ghost Touch", "Crocodile Stepstool", and "Underwater Panther of Justice". The song that earned him the attention of three royal families was "80 Soldiers".
