Plot: Wayfarers' Schism

The news about Tikhuphri Project success quickly spread worldwide and get to the Cosmos Wayfarers too.   Their leader Bheratal called for a plenary session at their headquarters, the Crossroads. The situation escalated quickly. At first, the majority did not want to intervene, because of the non-intervention clause in the New World Treaty. While the Empire did not sign it, they still believed meddling with Nysian political matters was morally wrong since they were a multiversal organization, devoted to the fight against the Abyss.   But many raised and asked for massive intervention. The Empire was openly hostile to them for unknown reasons which, in their opinion, have to go beyond the simple right of not accepting the treaty. (A clause forced the signatory countries to surrender any ancient artefact found within their borders to the Wayfarers upon request). Some claimed there must be a connection between the Empire, especially the Shadow Court, and the Abyss.   Others feared an imperial hegemony, which seemed the only possible outcome of the impending war, would have cut Wayfarers out of Nys completely, with the impossibility of keeping the Abyss out of the world.   The session went on for days. People changed their mind repeatedly until it was clear an irreparable fracture generated among them. The main groups are now the following.
  • The non-interventionists. They do not want to intervene at all unless the Abyss appears somewhere. They do not even want to investigate possible relationships between the Abyss and the Empire. They are currently busy taking care of the kanvæ.
  • The non-hegemonists. They believe no country should have control over the whole Nys, especially not the Empire. They departed for Nys trying to either fight the Empire or prove a connection between the Empire and the Abyss so that others will join their cause.
  • The doubters. They do not really know what to do but admit the Empire's behaviour is suspicious. They are investigating and trying to understand whether the Empire is meddling with abyssal forces.
  • The treatiests. They believe the New World Treaty must characterise how Wayfarers pose themselves to the worlds, independently of signatory countries. They must not intervene, ever, in political affairs. Their only business is to fight the Abyss and whoever disobeys the Treaty, including their colleagues. They are currently on Nys, looking for non-hegemonists to face and possibly kill them.
