Ruins of Valken

The City of Valken sat on the north end of Syren Eisland since the dawn of the Ametrian Empire. It was considered one of the first, and most prominent cities at the dawn of The Merchant League. It prospered as a massive deep water port for the Frisian navy. It's docks could hold, resupply, and service what was said to be upwards of a thousand ships. That all changed when one of the Elan Lords, Varghesh erupted from beneath the waves in 1223 AC. I a single cataclysmic day, much of the islands Valken sat on as well as the city itself crumbled and sank beneath the waves. The survivors of the destruction of the city and island fled to the Frisian mainland where they them established what is now Valkenburg. Some say this unusual occurrence led to the Merchant League's capitol of Margraten to prosper and become the premier city in Frisia.   The ruins themselves span much of north Syren Eisland and the area around and within the ruins leads to many underwater sinkholes in the ground. The islands are now infested with creatures and the ruins themselves many hold treasures within still although most that attempt to venture here never return.

Geography

The city span both ends of the island and the ruins do as well. Near the rocky shores, stone ruins of the massive harbors and quays can be seen from a distance. The inner city is full of crumbling edifices and monuments to a time long before the Merchant League was what it is today. The grasslands around the ruins do not offer much protection from the harsh winds that blow here and wither away the stone carvings on what was left of the city.
