Session 6: Weekend at Wyrmie's

General Summary

In the grand scheme of our beloved nerd squad's adventures, this was a tamer session as far as combat. (They are, after all, here to do community service and not to get swole beating up lil creatures.) That said, there were some scuffles and spats as the gang set about finishing their de-wyrming of Third Place. And de-shrooming, they're doing that too.   The primary highlight of the session involved a second Adult Bookwyrm emerging from the shelves all jump-scare-like. The difference is our intrepid heroes decided not to nuke this one into oblivion and instead try to talk to it, at the pleading of Piras the bookstore owner who didn't see the quest needing to end in bloodshed.   (If ALEK51 had a copper for every time he discounted an enemy creature as "just a creature" only to moments later learn it was sapient and could communicate with them, he'd have two copper. Which isn't a lot but it's funny it happened in 2 of 2 adventures so far.)   The older bookwyrm is open to negotiating with the crew about relocating herself and her squirmy spawn, but Piras steps in when they hear her talking about just wanting a safe place to create a hoarde. Piras and the older bookwyrm, who introduces herself as Annotatia, sidebar to negotiate terms of co-occupancy with some pro-bono Real Estate Agent Tervik Likkus support. They resolve that Annotatia and her kin can stay in one of the back rooms of the building and create their hoarde there, with the promise that Piras will provide them materials from time to time if they don't eat the rest of Piras' stock or bother patrons. Annotatia also consents to be a live-in resource for customers, as any good scholar knows that an older Bookwyrm can potentially trade knowledge or rare books if you befriend it instead of exterminate it.   (You can also probably get bad advice from the babies if that's more your price point, Kitanya Evermoon suggests.)   Meanwhile, rubble cleanup and puddle ice-and-yeeting continue by Amanita Guttata and Kitanya Evermoon and mushroom harvesting continues by ALEK51 and Num Erik Al who is able to use his herbalism kit deftly for the task. As for L0L4 , well, she's babysitting.
Annie is unable to attend game but there's plenty of books for Wynnie Bishop to be picking up gently in the background.
During conversations with Annotatia, the serpentine scholar suggests that the crew is welcome to take some of her children as companions along the way. She is saddened by her mate's death and those of some of her children (something that Amanita is startled to realize they actually feel bad about) but it is the nature of bookwyrms to be transient at a young age, distributing themselves in stacks of paper or leaflets or notes to faraway libraries.   Three of the party take her up on this offer:
  • Alek takes Paige
  • L0L4 takes Bartleby
  • Tervik takes Tome the Businesswyrm in a surprising turn of fatherhood
The party then departs Third Place for now, vowing to be back for Elven Press coffee and book dates, headed for the apothecary shop Eufloria to pawn their shrooms. There, they meet Mor Stonesplitter the ranger shopkeeper who Shae is immediately in love with (though maybe Alek isn't) and sell the tromaskine bulbs for big bucks. Amanita also picks up some stickshroom samples for her growing collection.   Finally, the party decides to check Katallo & Katarin's Antique, Artifact, Artifice, and Assorted Oddity Assessments to get answers on their mysterious card they looted from Zedron's mimic dungeon days prior, having not gotten answers from their current battery of check-it-out spells.   Katallo is there and more than happy to talk trinkets and doodads. He takes the card with reverence and declares it a part of the extremely rare-yet-collectible-yet-mysterious Arcanum Portentia deck of cards. He starts to do a lore dump, but Salem realizes it's late and people are eepy so we resolve to pick it up right here next week.
