OttL Session 39: The Death of an Archfey

General Summary

RP Roundup

RP between sessions 38 and 39 is actually in the article for Session 38: Kilead Fallen because the actual session ended on a cliffhanger and we did not want to plot police RP chat for a whole week.

Arrius Beatdown

The party goes through the portal, traveling from Kilead to Shippo. All player characters are present, and they also take Femtid
Arrius has things to say, but is not allowed to say them. Hobbs immediately starts combat, charging him and wrestling him to the ground
Arrius himself is last in initiative, so the rest of the party quickly surrounds and beats the hell out of him. He tries to regain ground by teleporting away and communicating telepathically with both Thaiva Phenol and Femtid. This does not work out for him.

Thaiva's Death

Just before his death, Arrius casts power word kill on Thaiva Phenol, killing her instantly.
Right after the fight, Redacted casts revivify on Thaiva. Thaiva's player is briefly taken into private voice chat:

Private Scene

Thaiva Phenol and her Plague Soul Rheai are floating separately above the Astral Sea. There is a ship in the distance, which quickly approaches.
The ship has an imp on board which is the same one that gave Thaiva Phenol her contract.
An angel approaches, informing Thaiva that she is being resurrected by a Chaotic Good individual named "Venchinull"
She thinks about this for quite some time, but does eventually agree. Immediately after the imp steps in, saying that because Penguin now has a claim on her soul, they are going to immediately press her into service. Her orders are to do what she can to put a follower of Penguin in charge of Shippo.

Thaiva Phenol does eventually restore to life
Afterwards, Arrius' corpse is mutilated in various ways. Natsu first brands his neck and then secondly cuts off all of his tails. After this Thaiva enters her hybrid form so that Rheai can eat what remains of the corpse.
Redacted goes back through the portal to check on Barry the Airship, where he sees a massive hole has been blown in the ship. He goes back to Shippo to report this, but when Thaiva Phenol goes to check everything seems fine. Druid Kaiser on the other side of the portal says Redacted came through, said some nonsense, and then left again.

The Wife

After taking a rest to recuperate, the group sets about investigating the town to see about new leadership. Hobbs first finds the man he drank with on their previous visit. After some conversation, the party is directed to Masa, Arrius' wife, in his mansion.
Natsu leads the way, and it takes little convincing for the house guard to let the party see Masa. She is staring at a deck of tarot cards, which Arrius used to predict his own death.
Natsu tries to comfort the woman, and at first it seems to be working, until she suddenly pulls out a necklace of fireballs and slams the entire thing into the ground. The resulting explosion destroys the mansion, starting a skill challenge to escape from the burning wreckage.
The escape is difficult and dangerous, with party members falling unconscious several times, but they do eventually escape with everyone in tact.

Aftermath

After escaping, the party spends time helping to put out the fires and then head to a local bathhouse where they spend time discussing future plans.
Thaiva Phenol explains that she needs to try to put someone who works for Penguin in charge of Shippo. Natsu is understandably unhappy with this.
At the suggestion of Hobbs, Dreamonskii is contacted and subsequently joins them at the bath to consult about legal matters.
Hobbs, Thaiva Phenol, and to a lesser extent even Natsu would qualify to satisfy Thaiva's contract.
