Course ID Explanation

First Digit

The first digit indicates the level of experience expected for students taking the course

Introductory Level (1)

These courses are designed for first-year students or those with limited prior knowledge in the subject area. They provide a solid foundation and cover fundamental concepts.

Intermediate Level (2)

These courses are suitable for second-year students or those who have completed introductory courses. They build upon foundational knowledge and delve deeper into the subject matter.

Advanced Level (3)

These courses target third-year students or individuals with a strong background in the field. They explore complex topics, theories, and advanced techniques.

Expert Level (4)

Reserved for fourth-year students or highly experienced individuals, these courses offer specialized and cutting-edge knowledge. They often involve intensive research, independent study, and advanced projects.

Second Digit

The second number identifies the course category

General Class (1)

A general class encompasses a broad range of magical knowledge and skills that are not specific to any particular school of magic or color. These classes offer a well-rounded education and are often taken by students in their early years to establish a solid foundation in magical theory and practice.

Red Class (2)

A red class focuses on the elemental forces of fire, passion, and impulse. It explores the energetic and spontaneous aspects of magic, often involving spells of fire, chaos, and intense emotions. Red classes may emphasize creativity, instinct, and individuality, offering students an opportunity to harness and express their fiery nature.

Blue Class (3)

A blue class delves into the realm of intellect, logic, and knowledge. It emphasizes the study of magic through careful analysis, strategic thinking, and meticulous planning. Blue classes often involve spells related to illusion, manipulation, and control of the mind. Students in blue classes develop their analytical and problem-solving skills while expanding their understanding of the mysteries of magic.

Green Class (4)

A green class centers around the natural world, growth, and the balance of life. It explores the connection between magic and nature, focusing on spells related to healing, harmony, and the preservation of life. Green classes often involve herbalism, elemental forces of nature, and the study of magical creatures. Students in green classes deepen their understanding of the natural order and their role within it.

Black Class (5)

A black class delves into the darker aspects of magic, delving into themes of power, ambition, and sacrifice. It explores spells related to death, necromancy, and manipulation of life force. Black classes often delve into forbidden knowledge and the understanding of the shadowy arts. Students in black classes explore their own desires and learn to wield magic with a focus on personal gain and self-preservation.

White Class (6)

A white class embodies the principles of justice and order. It explores spells of protection, healing, and restoration. White classes often emphasize community, and the pursuit of the greater good. Students in white classes learn to use magic for communal purposes, upholding values such as equitity and harmony.


Note: It's important to note that while a class may be categorized under a specific color, the teachings within that class can often extend beyond the traditional associations. Magic in Strixhaven is versatile and interdisciplinary, allowing for exploration and cross-pollination of ideas between different schools of magic and colors.
