Black Fox Network
The Black Fox network is an intelligence network of spies and informants scatted across the Aedrinaran Islands and rumoured to be throughout Prima Terra as a whole. Undetected, unknown, and illusive - the Black Foxes are named after the epithet of their founder, Refid Wintershield. A mix of the unassuming, the charismatic, the well-placed, and the deadly, the foxes are the amongst the strongest intelligence agency in the known world.
Working in the shadows - the organization have so far proven to be allies to Doomed 2 Die, but with rumours of the group also spying on the adventurers on behalf of their founder, their true motives remain unclear and dubious. All that can be proved is they are devoted and dutifully sworn to House Winter-Shield and are the vanguard in their coming wars.
Structure
The Network functions as single operatives in key locations who report to Starkard Wintershield via unique sending stones that allow them to send reports and recieve instructions at will. Operating alone to reduce their chances of detection comes with its pros and cons. They are harder to detect, and if foiled no other agents are put at immediate risk, however in the event of a crisis they are left without support.
Assets
The exact number of foxes is unknown. Believed to be scattered throughout Aedrinar and possibly beyond, Refid has never disclosed how many people report to him. Nor has any powerful figure ever admitted to uncovering one. Only three agents have been revealed to Doomed 2 Die - two deliberately and one by Starkard after their body was discovered. Two foxes would also participate in The Suicide Squad mission.
Known Agents
- Karl Olaffsen - deceased - Found dead in Morganhall by Shan
- Mathos - A bard encountered in Freywen who helped take down the Crown.
- Karl Ralfirssen - unknown - a spy within the Western Skallen who alerted the Black Fox after the capture of Doomed 2 Die and spared by Mr. Blake.
- Ciar - a mercy monk devoted to the Morrigan, member of the Suicide Squad
- Coal - an assassin lizardfolk member of the suicide squad
History
The existence of the foxes is only known to a select number of people, but theorized to exist by many more. As such, their history and founding is unknown other than it has occured during the lifetime of Refid Wintershield. Likely being formed during or just after the 40 Year War, the foxes seem to have mixed goals. Members are placed in important guilds and organizations, or amongst key settlements, with no universal mission or clear objective.
The existence of the network was first revealed to Doomed 2 Die in 1052 when they were captured by the Daggurssens of the Western Syndicate. An agent infiltrating the group, Karl Ralfirssen, revealed he was an agent of the black fox and risked himself to save the party by alerting Starkard they had been captured. Starkard would then send Mr. Blake to free the party, and Karl vanished.
The organization is rumoured to be spying on Doomed 2 Die as well, with agents hidden in Lastlight, Jameleskan, and many other key locations they have been to. Mathos would be the only other fox to reveal himself, assigned to thelp the party take down the Crown in Freywen. After this, he recieved new instructions and left the island.
Two foxes were also assigned to the suicide squad organized by Refid, Mr Blake, and Jarl Naerfi Oath-Knee to uncover the true identities of The Dragon Clan leaders in Northern Asrinheim. As of the end of Duskfall, 1052, the network seems to be organizing directly against the clan - especially since the clan tried to destroy Morganhall.
