The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad is the nickname given to the collection of adventuerers recruited from the ranks of the Skallen Syndicate, Black Fox Network, and citizens of Lastlight to infiltrate Falcon's Roost in Iminiyas. Considered the most collatoral members of their respective organizations, the suicide squad would be tasked to gather information on The Dragon Clan leaders in Northern Asrinheim and bring it to Doomed 2 Die.

Members

Lastlight Citizens

The citizens of Lastlight recruited the group were largely volunteers devoted to Jarl Naerfi Oath-Knee who answered her calls for warriors seeking an honourable fight and death. Four would answer the call, and all four would ultimately die in the distraction attack on the castle's gates.

Magni Ice-Blood

Magni Ice-Blood was a Lastlight city guard who sought higher glory and honour. They volunteered to gain great deeds, or go to Valhalla trying. Armed with a javelin of lightning they would fight hard at the Gates as they battled their way through. Magni was ultimately downed by the Gildaron forces and Dragon Clan squad present, and had recently thrown his weapon so was nearly doomed for Helheim until Ragnar the Kind dropped his greatsword into his hands.

Fabian

An elderly dwarf of Axehall who had long craved an honourable death, but kept winning the fights he hoped would send him to Valhalla. Travelling to Lastlight after hearing of Naerfi's coup and liking her style, he would finally get his wish when chosen to go on the suicide squad. Taking a flurry of arrows, balistae bolt, and crossbows - the dwarf would finally be downed by arcane blasts and die as he had long dreamed of.

Ragnar the Kind

A kind and sweet dockworker who accidently joined the mission - Ragnar was significantly underpowered compared to the rest of the suicide squad. The dockworker tried to first be diplomatic - which simply brought more anger his way. Being downed by arrows, the fury of his ancestors brought him up and in his final moments he managed to take some guards out and ultimately sacrified his place in Valhalla by placing his greatsword in the hands of Magni Ice-Blood in order to send him to Valhalla. He was finally destroyed by The Piper's fireball.

Lux

A tiefling cleric of Frigga, Lux was amongst the first to die in the gatehouse attack. They tried in vain to guiding bolt the piper, and are survived by the mysterious brother somwhere in Lastlight.

The Black Fox Network

Agents of the Black Fox - only two of the illusive organization's members would join the frey. Devoted to the fox, the agents who joined hoped to make good on the Thane's promises of reward.

Ciar

The only Black Fox agent to attack the gatehouse- Ciar origiantes from Gwenydd and uses their monastic skills in death and worship of the morrigan as a spy and assassin. Ciar was the only gatehouse assaulter to survive, going invisible and slinking across the walls after the Piper's reveal. Ciar managed to get details on The Arrow and escape in their crow form despite being heavily wounded.

Coal-Lee-Yat

A lizardfolk assassin - Coal's dad is absent and beleived to be an assassin. A teenager, or young adult (it is never really made clear), Coal acts tough and edgy but the horrors of the assault shook them to their core, and were one of only three survivors.

Skallen Syndicate

The Skallen Members were chosen by Mr Blake and his Syndicate Leaders as the weakest parts of their chain, ones who's sacrifices would not be easily missed. In total, four Skallen members from across Aedrinar would be recruited.

Drey Catcher

A vaniri ranger from the Glacier Syndicate, Drey Catcher utilises an army of squirrels and specialises in infiltration and diplomacy. In the infiltration squad, Drey helped the squad get into the keep and managed to barely escape the Piper's attack by jumping out of a window and hiding in nature. They managed to use a squirrel army to get informtation on the Lyre, and were one of the tree survivors.

Glint Stoneslip

A treasure hunter and gem-assessor from the Swift Syndicate in Orsturkirk, Glint pocketed one too many gems for themselves and was selected for the mission. Showing no real loyalty, when the Piper ambushed the extraction squad after their failed assassination on two eating Dragon Clan members in a mess hall, Glint tried to betray the squad. Their attempts to appeal to the piper fell on death ears, and the warlord mercilessly killed them. Due to Glint contracting mummy rot earlier in the Gildaron tomb, as soon as they were downed by a cone of cold they instantly dissolved.

Modi Tin-Eye

A human from the Jameleskan Syndicate. He volunteered to be part of one last big job before retiring, and intented to go back to his family in Fargenvur upon mission complettion. Unfortunately, only his cut will ever reach his family after Modi made a defiant last-stand against the Piper, even successfully getting some heavy strikes on the warlord. The Piper would bring Modi back from the brink of death to continue 'playing' until Modi was unable to hit the Piper anymore, at which he was finally allowed to die.

Lurina

An Ice Elf druid from the Odinsthrone Syndicate, Lurina used their wild shapes to act as information gathering or as a getaway. Angering the wrong people one to many times, Lurina was chosen for the mission. They managed to survive the Piper's attacks and made their way further into the keep with Coal. Lurina would die when the two cornered The Horn, and they were thrown from the window and continued to taunt the psionic knight, allowing Coal to escape. They were slain by The Piper's arcane blast.

History

Prelude

In Applefall of 1052, 3e, the Dragon Clan, led by Teng Silverjaw, had taken over Drekenheim and established themselves within Aedrinar. The Black Fox, Refid Wintershield, was already preparing for an eventual war with the group. Similarly, Mr. Blake, the Skallen Master, had one of his syndicates wiped out by the clan and would realise the cult were seeking the use the crystaline heart of Yndress the Destroyer for their own methods.   A steady build up of intelligence and forces began between the Black Fox Network, The Skallen, and the Dragon Clan. The Piper would be brought in by Teng to help with the wider Aedrinaran landscape and he recognized how Blake and Refid would be major threats to their hold on power. Using their vanguard and other assets, the Dragon Clan started to put pressure on Refid and Skallen assets throughout Aedrinar, culminating in the Incident at Morganhall where Wights were allowed into the town by a Vanguard to disrupt Refid's allies in House Morganssen.   Refid would recruit Shan to end this problem, and then used his own agents to defeat The Crown in Freywen. This would begin the open hostilities between House Winter-Shield and the Dragon Clan.   Meeting with his long term advesary, Mr Blake, Refid proposed an idea to help Doomed 2 Die, the largest threat to the Dragon Clan, defeat the organization within Asrinheim by providing them the identities on the leaders there. Blake agreed, but the two would need a third party to help with their efforts. Choosign Jarl Naerfi Oath-Knee, a proven enemy of the Dragon Clan and stalwart ally of Doomed 2 Die, the three would recruit members of their domains to begin the high-risk mission to infiltrate the heart of The Piper's empire and gather details on Dragon Clan members.

The Mission

The Suicide Squad's mission began with a large distraction. Five of the group would attack the main gate to lure guards, and ultimately The Piper himself, to their position and allow the extraction squad to sneak in over the walls and find the information on the dragon clan leadership. The Distraction team at first tried to sneak in, then to act diplomatically, but were ultimately pushed into battle.   Breaking through the gates, they came across a small squad of Dragon Clan soldiers, and eventually The Piper. Four of the first squad would die at the gates - with only Ciar managing to sneak away. With the distraction ongoing, the Extraction squad would sneak over the wall using wildshapes, magic items, and climbing gear and make their way quietly through the Great Tower, taking out the guards within. The group also gathered intel on someone's arrival from Thevensyne and their expensive carriage being kept in the stables.   The extraction squad then moved through the Gildaron Tombs, and after failing to find the secret entrances to other rooms ended up in the cellars. Coal would use their dust of disapearance to mask the party and they snuck through the kitchens into the old Great Hall where the found Regent Myrkir Ardiylir and two of his guards. One tried to speak out against the regent, and was slain by their brother in response. The Piper then entered, and adressed the Regent as 'The Flame', revealing the first of the four dragon clan leaders.   Seeking to avoid conflict, the extraction team snuck upstairs into the main corridor and to avoid their invisibility wearing off they came into a mess hall and found two dragon clan members. Their attempts to assassinate them failed, and the alarm was raised. In the battle, the Piper would enter and despite two dragon clan warriors and several guards dying - the Piper would claim the lives of two of the suicide squad. In the space of an hour, their number had dropped from 10 to just 4.   Drey would jump out a window, whilst Lurina and Coal fled upstairs pursued by a single guard. Modi died holding the Piper off, and Glint was executed by the piper for their 'disloyalty' in attempted to turncoat. Ciar would continue their slow move through the castle elsewhere. Lurina and Coal would run upstairs, and Drey out of a window.   Drey amassed a number of squirrels in the neraby castle grove and they managed to get information on The Lyre, a bard from Icespire, as well as a map detailing the Arrow's location. They then managed to escape, flying over the castle walls to the extraction point. Ciar would end up running into the Arrow atop the guest quarters and was nearly killed. They managed to escape the lower portions of the keep and got some details on who the arrow was. As they were purused by The Flame and some guards, they escaped through the window in crow form.   Coal and Lurina, however, made their way upstairs from the barracks and hid in a captain's room. This room was being inhabited by The Horn, a psionic knight named Kallus Wren, who turned on Lurina and hurtled them out of the window. This did allow Coal to escape. Lurina would be killed by the Piper moments later.   With three of the ten surviving, they made their way to the docks where Mathos gathered their informaiton, and sent them to Crowsport to pass this on to Doomed 2 Die whilst the bard remained in Asrinheim. A squirrel messenger would leave the documents for Doomed 2 Die at the docks.

Disbandment

With the mission complete, the three surviving members were sent on their way, the suicide sqaud officially haven completed their purpose.
