Jameleskan Military

The only professional army of the Duchy of Jameleska, the military is composed of eight divisions dedicated to specific parts of warfare. Once a formidable force in Jotun, the military felt the pressure of The Snow Lord's invasion in 1052, 3e, and is lost near a thousand of soldiers due to the attacks on the city's grand walls. Found throughout the Duchy and city of Jameleska, the military is responsible for the duchy's protection and were once one of the best army's in all Prima Terra. Although far past their glory, the military still holds an important status and prestige within the city.   Since the end of the four week war, the military is begining a process of restructing under the guidance of Martial-General Horsha Lenn, with the soldiers who were not killed in battle becoming more experienced veterans, the prestige of this once glorious institution may soon return.

Structure

The first example in Aedrinar of a professional military order, Jameleska created a unique structure of their army with multiple divisions dedicated to a specific area of warfare. Each division has its own general, with the duke or duchess of Jameleska overseeing all the branches as commander in chief.

The Scouts

An elite and small division that serve as special operations, only the best soldiers can join the scouts. In times of war, the scouts go behind enemy lines and cause chaos and disrupt their enemy where it hurts most. In the Snow Lord's war, the scouts have suffered the greatest losses thus far. Famous scout members include Captain Flygir Eroskyn, Coroporal Heli Ristor, and private Ardo Hune.

The Hammers

Intelligent, ingenous, and efficiant. The Hammers are the engineers of the Jameleskan military. Responsible for the design of the middle and outer walls and all their defences, the hammers maintain and construct internal defences and traps. The hammers are the only organization to be run by a non-military general, with Earl Cloudfetcher, the designer of the cloud cart transport system, serving as their chief officer.

The Sun Bolts

Also known as the artillery, the Sun Bolts are strong sharpshooters who specialise in ranged warfare. Manning the scorpians that line the walls and patrolling along these walls with their longbows, the Sun Bolts are considered the backliners of the military. They have suffered the second largest losses after the Scouts.

The Spears

the infantry of the army, the spears are the grunt soldiers and are kitted out in heavy armour with swords, spears, shields, and hand crossbows. The largest portion of the army, Spear barracks can be found throughout Jameleska.

The Glaives

Also known as the cavalry, the glaives are largely composed of second or third sons of powerful noble families who seek their fortunes through the military rather than inheritance. Considered posh and elitist, the glaives still form a formidable force with their charges being immortalised in Jameleskan history.

The Royal Guard

The Royal guard, sometimes called the shields, are members of the armed forces dedicated to protecting the most powerful noble houses and the duke within Jameleska. Found largely in Old Jotunbrygge within the inner walls, their barracks are in Rosethrope. The children of nobles who hold more political power are often sent to join the royal guard, with the position consider cushy and safe compared to the other branches. Notable members of the Royal Guard include Horsha Lenn and Lt. Braer.

The Shadows

The military intelligence division, this sector has only recently been reformed. Disbanded following the treaty of Lastlight, the shadows are intented to be used as spies in foreign territory gathering intelligence on the duke's enemies and hunting for foreign spies and organizations within Jameleska itself.

The Anchors (defunct)

Formally the naval forces of Jameleska, this division was disbanded after the treaty of lastlight with naval protection being granted to the Frost King's forces. Calls to reform the division have been heard within Jameleska, but the time needed to construct ships is too long and no Aedrinarian or Ice Elf jarl has stepped forward to volunteer their own ships.

History

Founded in the second age after the exapansion into middle walls region, the formal military was designed to replace the traditional knights and levies of the noble families of Jameleska and to become a better trained professional armed force to protect the duchy. The military has been responsible for the expansion and protection of the city and its vassals throughout the duchy's history.   Since the treaty of Lastlight when Jameleska formally joined the kingdom of Jotun, the military numbers decreased heavily and the naval and intelligence divisions were disbanded. The Snow Lord's betrayal and attack of the city has seen recruitment increase massively, but the loss of professionalism and veterans over the decades has meant the army is no longer the force it used to be.
