Raven's Perch

Written by Sylmanos

Raven’s Perch is the oldest current settlement on Star Fall Island and the only port available. Even when the Collectors Organization ran things from the Charred Isles, the Perch was the only real port of entry for the archipelago. This has allowed it to slowly flourish and allowed the settlement to grow beyond what it was. With the founding of the Raven’s Keep and the renaming of the settlement it has only grown larger now that it can govern itself.   Within the bounds and borders of Raven’s Perch are several Consortium assets, most important of which is the Raven’s Keep itself.

Government

Being the largest of the settlements of the Island, Raven's Perch has the most in-depth Government system of them all. Unlike the other settlements which have a singular ruler, Raven's Perch is governed by a council with the current sitting Speaker operating as the primary representative when needed.   The Council has five seats on it. These five seats are filled by representatives as voted on by the populace of Raven's Perch. Elections are held every other year. The top five who earn the most votes are given a seat at the council, with the one receiving the largest portion of the vote being made the Speaker of the Council. This council determines the laws of the Perch and handles most political matters, they are also the ones that handle any interactions with the Raven's Keep Consortium itself as they are in equal partnership with the Consortium over matters happening within Raven's Perch.   Under the Council is the Watch. The Perch Watch is the law enforcement of the settlement and help to maintain order. In addition to providing defense to the settlement, they help resolve disputes, take any law breakers into custody, investigate crimes, and provide security during elections.   The Perch Watch delivers any law breakers to the small court system which has a single judge. This Judge is selected by the council and is changed after each election. Though the same person may be reselected.

Districts

The Docks District: Fairly self-explanatory. This district of the Perch is where the docks and warehouses are stored. One may also find small taverns here and inns as well for the sailors whose vessels are current in dock. The ferry to other ports along the island are also found here.   The Market District: The center of the Perch, the Market District is where the majority of trade is done within the city and where most businesses are located.   The Raven's Keep: This area of the Perch is designated for the use of the Raven's Keep Consortium. This includes the Keep itself as well as other facilities owned by the Consortium. The majority of this district is restricted to only the Ravens of the Consortium.   Council District: The governing district of the Perch, this area is strictly patrolled to ensure the safety of the Councilors. The sitting councilors have offices here, as well as the court, and the main barracks for the Watch.   Residential District: This is the rest of the Perch. It is where people live and interact with one another. Other public buildings are here as well, such as religious buildings, bakeries and other such things.   The Resort: A newly constructed Distrcit just outside the main walls of the Perch, the Resort is a place designed to draw in tourism to Star Fall Island alongside the Karma Arena. The Resort has its own set up of shops and merchants, as well as get away locations for those who wish to bask in the natural wonders of the island.

History

Not much is known aobut when Raven's Perch was found. Indeed, there are many conflicting accounts. Some indicate that it is a recent settlement, while others say it traces back to the days of the original Geomancer settlers of the island. Regardless, the populace is a mixture of descendants of the original Geomancers, ship wreck survivors, descendants of ship wreck survivors, and pioneering individuals.

Geography

The geography of the area around the perch is fairly hilly with sea side cliffs. There is a lake nearby and a river that flows through this particular biome. Fresh water is diverted from these via an aqueduct.

Climate

The climate for this biome is fairly moderate, similar to that experienced by Hingashi.
