Gap of Grief
The current commanding officer of the Citadel at the Gap of Grief is Kazimir Vodyn.
Location
In the shadow of Kyrus’s furthest reaches, the Gap of Grief stands sentinel, a solemn threshold between the last vestiges of Human dominion and the desolate expanse known as the Frost Wastes. This forlorn region is a chilling testament to nature’s unyielding dominion, where the southern marshlands of Syiv’s tundra stretch forth as a bleak prelude to the frost-enshrouded desolation that lies beyond. The Frost Wastes are a realm abandoned by warmth, a merciless crucible where only the most formidable creatures endure. It is here that Trolls and Ogres claim dominion, eking out a brutish existence in the land aptly named Ogria. In this frigid theater of survival, even these hardy beasts reach their limits, beyond the strife-ridden plains of Ogria, the land succumbs to an unrelenting wintry oblivion, where only ice, snow, and the echoes of the departed dwell. Legends whisper of Hyperboria, the realm that once flourished here before the world was wracked by The Cataclysm. Verdant taiga forests teemed with life, and tribal Humans roamed freely until an inexorable Ice Age reshaped the world, leaving behind an inhospitable landscape where only the shadows of a bygone era linger beneath the ice, those who perished being cursed to wander the Wastes as mindless husks by a dark power hidden beneath the ice. The Gap of Grief, a melancholy monument to past and present, serves as Kyrus’s bulwark against the unwitting incursions from the north. Mindless undead, roaming Ogres, and wandering Trolls, ignorant of the concept of borders, are drawn to the warmth of the south, only to meet the formidable defense of the Tsardom's watch. Fortifications span from the stoic Iglophian to the steadfast Messial Mountains, with a formidable citadel at the heart, ever-prepared to repel the encroaching chaos with a vigilant garrison.History
The Gap’s name is a mournful echo from an age when the Great Migrations saw humanity’s desperate flight from a world turned frigid. It marks the site of ancient conflicts with the once-majestic Wood Elves of Arboria, a proud people of the Kleriel Imperium brought low by cataclysmic change. The Slaya, spurned by Elven indifference in their times of need, harbored a deep-seated grudge that would explode into the Migration Wars. The Gap of Grief, the initial battleground, became a crucible where centuries of pent-up fury were unleashed upon the now vulnerable Elves, their mystical prowess extinguished. In the present day, the Gap of Grief delineates a new frontier, one where the ramparts erected are not against the eldritch might of Elves but to ward off the primal forces of disorder. It stands as a poignant symbol of the enduring struggle between the march of civilization and the untameable wilderness, a place where history’s sorrowful echoes meet the relentless present. In recent history, the Gap of Grief bore witness to a harrowing tale of royal blood and barbaric fury. It was here, amidst the silent expanse that marks the boundary of Human realms and the frozen desolation, that the Tsardom of Kyrus felt an icy grip of dread. The youngest scion of Tsar Vlad Svytloslaw, a prince born to the opulence of Tsarigrad, met a fate most dire. As an unseasonable blizzard swallowed the land in its howling maw, a marauding band of Ogres, those hulking denizens of the Frost Wastes, descended upon the prince's entourage. With brute force and cruel intent, they seized him, dragging him into the white abyss from what was supposed to be his safe haven.
