The Inquisition
The Inquisition is an old order in Sanroth, always a part of the government since the kingdom's formation by the First King. The core tenents of the Inquisition believe in peace and stability through order, though the Inquisitors often found themselves in conflict with the Justicars over their chosen methods. Where the Justicars valued honor above all else, the Inquisition was much more willing to use more questionable methods in the name of protecting the people of Sanroth.
All Inquisitors start as Iniates and are eventually trained in one of several Schools, each of which teaches a different set of relative skills, before they are officially assigned to a Chapter (though it is not uncommon to find Initiates serving a Chapter before they have joined a School). Chapters of the Inquisitions are either based in a specific location, such as the Riverside or Summerfell Chapters, or go wherever they are directed or where their mission takes them, such as the Phoenix Chapter.
When Lord No One killed King Rudur and the rest of the royal family in a terrible massacre, the Inquisition stepped up to take control over Sanroth, its leaders believing themselves the only chance of rebuilding the control following the Hollow War. There was a brief struggle for power between the Inquisitors and the remnants of the Justicars, ending with the Justicars destroyed and the Inquisition in authority.
The Inquisition enforced a strict hand in their running of Sanroth, determined to steer the country back to providence by any means necessary. The Party have encountered several examples of the Inquisition's new policies, from enforced labour camps to tolling of the roads. The extremist Phoenix Chapter went as far as attempting to eradicte the people of Mirstone in order to quell what they saw as a vampiric threat.
