Arborean, House Shadowsword
The house is governed by a council of elders, who make the most important decisions concerning the affairs of the house. However, the real power rests in the hands of the head of the family, known as the Master of Shadows. Only the most loyal and reliable members are admitted to the council of elders, who meet in secret places to discuss house affairs.
The Shadowswords are known for their skill in the art of deception, infiltration, and manipulation. Each member of the house is trained in the art of concealment and persuasion, and many of them are able to use magic to aid them in their espionage and manipulation activities.
The family provides espionage, smuggling, burglary, counterintelligence, assassination, and other illegal services throughout Valenor, though their clients are unaware that they are actually employing members of the Shadowsword, thinking they are employing mere mercenaries or a other guild like the Masks. The Shadowsword clan's family business is so secretive that even its own agents often don't know who they really work for.
In regards to business, the Shadowswords have invested in many lucrative businesses, such as trading in exotic spices, lending at high interest rates, manufacturing weapons, intelligence gathering, and selling advanced technology at a high price. However, these activities are always run in secrecy, and many times the Shadowswords operate through front companies or intermediaries.
In the elven society of Arborea, the Shadowswords are generally regarded with suspicion, if not outright disgust, as they are known for their reputation as devious manipulators and liars. However, many other houses and individuals in Valenor are willing to use their services, despite the risks involved.
House Shadowsword is engaged in an underground war with House Illynor for control of the illicit activities of the Kingdom of Arborea. As both houses rely on secrecy, manipulation and underhandedness, they are a great threat to each other. House Illynor is currently the dominant house in this type of illicit activity, but House Shadowsword is proving to be a very dangerous rival, capable of stealing customers and profits from their businesses.
Their wizards are known for the formidable power of Chronomancy, and some of their priests openly worship Sela, even though her religion was forbidden after the "War of the Sisters" that separated the Eleans from the elf family.
Lineage in the Shadowsword family follows strict feudal rules and all powers and lands go to the firstborn (male or female). Other brothers and sisters usually take on some of the family's darker business or leave to become mercenaries, spies, or assassins.
House Shadowsword is led by Count Quastarte (Gold Elf, 476 years old)
House Shadowsword is one of the oldest elven houses in Arborea. Its origin dates back to the period in which the elves settled the region, during which the founders of the house acquired considerable experience in survival and combat in a wild environment. Later, the house specialized in intelligence gathering and information manipulation, building a vast network of informants, spies, and agents infiltrating every aspect of Valenor's society.
