The Second War of Ashes

The Second War of Ashes was the biggest calamity to befall the Western Kingdoms of Sildair in recorded history. It lasted 67 years, and affected every human kingdom on the continent. It started when Ashagor the Despoiler led a host of orcs and shadowkin out of the Ash Wastes to invade eastern Dunor. Over the course of the war his forces succeeded in conquering Dunethel, as well as Zashoana and Askaria, and large parts of Gesha and Perikor. The war was finally ended when King Ethalad of Sarkara mounted a crusade that liberated Dunethel, and Ashagor was slain.

The Second War of Ashes marks the end of the Golden Epoch and in the Dunorian calendar it is counted as its own Epoch. Following the notation system, it is abreviated 2nd WoA. Though the war began and ended during the first and last years of the epoch, the whole of those years are counted as part of the Second War of Ashes, for the purposes of marking dates. An example of a date would be the beginning of Ethalad's Crusade which is written as "1. Verdant, 60 2nd WoA", and is spoken: "The 1st of Verdant in the 60th year of the Second War of Ashes."
