Sulmaré (sul-MAH-ray)

Sulmaré is the region in the southeastern portion of the Wessan continent. It is a region of fertile plains and riverlands.
Named by ancient Marite seafaring explorers, the word "sulmare" comes from the Vension, meaning "overseas." It is the land directly to the west of the Aishelon and the Itänia subcontinent in the southern latitudes of the Starry Sea (known as "the Crossing"). Sulmaré was the first western land coloinized by the maretime peoples of the east in the early Age of Epiphany.
The original Marite settlers were overcome by raiding Etelian (Kainen) horseclans who captured and enslaved them, destroying the exploration colonies that had been founded in Sulmaré. Over the centuries, there was a mixing of cultures and characteristics which came to be associated with Etelian Lurvites in the Age of Exile.
A second major wave of Vensian settlers from the east re-colonized the region in latter centuries. These were the "Mirrilings" known to the people of Wessa in the Age of Darkness.
