The Greenwood

North of the Barrier Mountains, between the Priall Valley and the River Caal, lies a great expanse of woodland known as the Greenwood Forest (called Fal-Prasinas by the Fae). This forest is a dense wood of oak, beech, elm, and ash, with a few laurel-leaf trees on the southern border. Flora and fauna are plentiful. Paths seem natural and not man-made (except for the Old Forest Road). On the east (Elvaen) side of the forest, as well as near the Grove of Mielikki on the south, the trees change to walnut, maple, cherry, and apple. Flowers are also very abundant.

The Old Forest Road: The only sure way through Greenwood is the Old Forest Road that runs east-west through the center of the deep forest. The eastern (elvean) side of this road has been lost, where it used to empty out on the eastern edge, extending to Becon's Crossing.   The Old Hedgerow: The Greenwood is divided in the center by a great hedgerow of thorns, a magical barrier against planted to protect and seperate the Elvaen lands from the Satyr lands. The hedge is 20-30 feet high (depending on terrain). The width of the hedge is 15-20 feet, and it cannot be climbed, for doing so would be a painful if the climber was not protected by some powerful device or formula. Chopping through the hedge is possible, but only magic weapons will affect it. The thorns are unaffected by flame, but if an attempt is made to burn them a cloud of spores will rise up in a 3” radius around the intended fire. The hedge is penetrated by four permanent "plant doors" at various points (one is at the Forest Road, the others are hidden, and changed from time to time by th Fae). Detecting Etherea will reveal that there is strong power in these locations, activated by formulas such as plantdoor, or passwall, etc., in these locations only.
