Cuestan Laujentó

Cuestan (Port) Laujentó is a prominent trade town in The Republic of Larendar. Laujentó is a relatively old city, but it has only recently risen to its current status with the influx of trade to Larendar.

History

Initially, Laujentó was a small settlement meant to enjoy the infrequent but bountiful trade from the main continent. Since then, it has become the primary exporter of the resources mined out of the rich Ílcófel Mountains, especially since conditions in "The Vibrant City" of Tajenal have greatly worsened since the start of the Revenge for Froañó military campaign.

Government

Faddríd Janje Crerdó has been in charge of Laujentó for a good 20 years after stomping political opponents with her track record of successful economic policies. However, she has come under fire due to her seemingly willful blindness to the pirate raids that happen in the Laujentó Bay. Although she does not have the legal responsibility to care for the traders that get caught by said pirates, it irrefutably harms the economy. Various defeated challengers have come forward to claim that they predicted this long ago and are ramping up support for the upcoming elections.

Crime

Corruption in Laujentó is not near the extent it is in large cities like Tajenal, Larengó, and Dhyrre, but it does happen. For the most part, dock workers or guards may be bribed to sign sketchy paperwork for certain shipments, or ignore the unlawful exportation of goods marked for local businesses, or simply look the other way. Despite the suspicion of some less-than-savory types, attempted bribes (and even an extortion attempt) against Faddríd Janje Crerdó are swiftly met with jail sentences.

Defenses

Faddríd Crerdó keeps a small but well-trained garrison of Larenpríd guarding the docks and manning naval defenses while her Lareníca patrol the streets and keep citizens safe (and under control).   In the recent influx of pirate attacks, Crerdó has uncharacteristically called off many of the deterring counterattacks. This has led some citizens to suggest that she is in league with them. This activity has drawn the notice of the Circle as some of these shipments were vital to the ongoing war effort.

Organizations

Port Worker's Guild

A group of citizens who work the port docks.

Clus Pód Grasla

A moderately sized motel owned by Druden Grasla; a happy, fat-faced dwarf who dabbles in cooking sugary treats.

Economy

Cuestan Laujentó is mostly fueled by trade. They regularly import luxury goods like spices, alcohol, silks, etc. In addition, they specifically request much of the goods unable to be produced locally in Larendar (quality lumber, certain metals, many alchemical ingredients, etc). Their primary exports are the resources mined from the Ílcófel Mountains; as such, they regularly do business with Ílcótaña. Tourism here is not nearly as common as Cuestan Ibér, but it does supplement local businesses during shipment dry spells.

Environment

What sort of flora & fauna surround/supply the settlement? Climate? Geography?   Being situated on a bay, Laujentó has access to the plentiful fish that reside in the Nodlolso Ocean. is subject to frequent storms, which occasionally include tornadoes.

Cuestan Laujentó Adventures

Far from the Tree (Mid Level)

Janje Crerdó's daughter, Joann, has joined up with the pirates that are causing havoc in Laujentó Bay. This is why Janje refuses to take action against them. But these pirates just took down a ore shipment leaving Laujentó, contrary to what they have been doing prior. As such, Janje reaches out and requests the party to (essentially) kidnap her before the naval reinforcements she called for go 'scorched-earth' on piracy.
