The South River
The South River is the river that runs from the Southlands north, through the Demonspires before it splits into the Horsetail and the Red River just north of Jade. The South River is integral not only to the ecosystem of the Gold Coast, but also to its global relevancy. It is the cheapest way to reach the far off Southlands for trade and, while one always needs to be prepared for bandit and Wyrding raids when traveling the Demonspires, it is far less dangerous than the land routes of the Oases Roads through the Firelands, or even the littoral route along the western side of the Mountains of Ash, as there is little opportunity to resupply aside from a few villages and natural ports. For most of the Shimmering Sea, the South River is the gateway to the Southlands.
