A young race that emerged after
The Second Divergence in
Magistorms. These creatures are made out of magical energies inhabiting dust-like material that forms their bodies. They look humanoid but their actions and culture seem very alien to many. They speak in the third person like they are a hivemind of souls and are capable of speaking to another of their race just with a touch. Their eyesight allows them to see magic as well as some magic users, while at the same time being very at ease near
Magic Sources.
For many decades, they were treated as monsters, hunted down due to their lack of knowledge of the world and the ability to speak the local language. So, magihail is actually them in some form of the dust-like material and if enough falls during a Magistorm, it will form (far from the location it fell as some instinct of safety) a new Aetherborn. While almost all Aetherborn that come to the planet with the Magistorm have amnesia, some retain it and keep it a secret. Only the highest of echelons of
Xeset, the only city of the Aetherborn on
Tethys, know the truth about their origins. They come from a distant sphere (just like the Cube of this world) that was on the verge of destruction. With their combined might, they sent out a powerful sending spell, transporting their souls to the
Space Between Stars (or the Void), aiming at
Sol. However, they didn't know about the
Ring of Dust and thus their souls became trapped there. It is unknown how much time they were imprisoned there, many speculate that it was before or during
The First Divergence. They couldn't leave as they had no consciousness of their own until
The Second Divergence happened and some of the dust fell into
Tethys as the first magihail.
On Tethys
The race is scattered around the world. Most of them do not hail from
Xeset but adapted to live where they could. Most of them are
Wizards or similar as they have innate magical abilities but there are some capable of controlling the dust-like material in their bodies to increase or decrease mass, allowing them to work as fighters or rogues. Those from Xeset work together as a hivemind, sending many out to gain knowledge so they can share with each other back home. There are still, after decades, places that do not treat the Aetherborn as an intelligent race. One such place is
Quadropolis, the
Mechagnomes see them as abominations, the view is shared by some magical societies that wish to study the race or maybe use it as "fuel" for their experiments. Most nations in the world are neutral to them but the major ones are still antagonistic towards them.
First World
There were no Aetherborn in the
First World.
