Session 21: Thundertree

General Summary

Awaking from a long rest, the Hat Gang decided to set off for Thundertree to recover Mirna Dendrar's family heirloom. Nissany remembered there was something important she should tell the party, but she could not recall what it was. Unable to bring him with them, the party decided to leave the sleeping Tibor Wester at the Loggers' Camp, with Dymera guarding him. Once that was sorted, the rest of the Hat Gang and their goblin ally/acquaintance/pet Droop embarked on their 3 hour journey to Thundertree.
Whilst traveling, Nissany remembered the important thing, and shared it with both Jensen and Elarnya separately. Whilst scouting, Nissany spotted a dangerous creature in a tree and downed it with her crossbow, however, as it fell from the tree, it became clear that this creature was in fact a simple loaf of bread.
When the party drew near to the town, they encountered a fork in the road. Out of the forest, leaving Elarnya unable to navigate as well as she could in her favoured terrain, Jensen suggested Kellogs fly ahead to see which path was correct. Continuing left, the party finally arrived at Thundertree, which they found it to be in complete ruins, overgrown with plant life. Partymembers began to search the rubble, and found nothing until they came across an old tavern named The Brown Horse. When Yuri Canmore broke the door down, the old tavern appeared to contain two ash zombies, identified by Boston, the horrifyingly cursed remnants of Thundertree's deceased denizens.
A fight breaks out, and one of the zombies is swiftly beheaded by a precise arrow Elanya loosed from Talon, only to then pick it's head up and continue to fight. Meanwhile, Boston. who had positioned himself behind the tavern's counter, was attacked by two ash zombies hidden beneath it, when he struck one, a cloud of ash dispersed in the nearby area, poisoning him. He then tried to open the door behind him with his crowbar, but failed miserably, unable to think or act clearly with the toxic ash in his lungs. Elarnya got a second killing blow, this time with her dagger, on the zombie se previously beheaded and fortunately it stayed head, dropping its own decomposed skull on the floor.
Jensen began to prepare thunderwave, warning the other party members to get out of the way. Most heeded his warning, and when Jensen unleashed his spell, he killed one of the ash zombies but injured Boston and Yuri, Yuri falling backwards into a puddle of goo that had once been a zombie. One of the zombies was thrust into a wall, it's pulpy flesh sticking to the wall, but it peeled itself off, only to be met with yuri's sword, its lifeless body sliding down the blade so that its head rested on Yuri's hand, much to the barbarian's disgust. Elarnya returned to the interior of the tavern, where she stabbed a zombie until it resembled more of a skeleton. It lost an arm trying to attack back, and was slain by Boston.
After a brief moment to recover, Yuri decided to open the door to the back of the tavern, revealing four more ash zombies in the storeroom.
