Glass

Glass is a desert island characterized by huge shards of glass that burst from the sand like blooming flowers of crystal. The island is inhospitable to most life that has not evolved to the specific needs of its burning days and chilling nights, and so, there is only a small community of colonists who live on resources brought over from other islands.   Glass is a member of the United Federation of Independent Colonies, and thus, is generally protected under their non-aggression agreement with both The Pact and the kingdom of Paradise. However, rumors have circulated for years that Mr. Dunes's own son is a proud Onenite, and upon his father's death, plans to gift the island and all her resources to Paradise, effectively making it a vassal state.   Glass has both a fire attuned and earth attuned Source Crystal, but only a single Source Dragon. That dragon is known as Baalagog the Two Faced Wyrm, a terrifying creature that attacks the town of Duston every few decades. Although he has been killed many times, Baalagog the Two Faced Wyrm refuses to communicate with the colonists and seems to only want their destruction or complete eviction from the island. The whereabouts of the Source Crystals have not yet been discovered.

Geography

Glass's geography is defined by rolling dunes of orange sand and towering growths of flower like glass. There are no natural bodies of water on the island so water must be shipped in to support non-indigenous life.

Ecosystem Cycles

In early in the month of Terminus Glass experiences a short period of a few days of sporadic rainfall. These rains are enough to feed the cacti that grow on the island for the coming year.

Localized Phenomena

The glass buds that Glass is famous for are unlike anything found on any other island. These growths are not static, but growing, spreading outward slowly like a living plant composed entirely of glass. Some theorize that if untended, the glass would eventually grow into a dense forest, completely enveloping the island.

Fauna & Flora

In terms of natural animals, there are only a few who have developed to survive in this hostile environment. There are several species of lizards that live in the sand, hunting a wide variety of beetles and smaller lizards. The beetles feed on larger carcasses of sky beasts that regularly die over the island.    The only plants on the island are cacti, some of which contain hallucinogens that are valued by a number of mystics and drug enthusiasts across the Skies.

Natural Resources

The colonists of Glass mainly harvest both glass and sand to sell to other islands. Most windows and glassware in the Fractured Skies can trace their origin to this one particular island. The trade is somewhat lucrative, as evidenced by the luxurious life style of Glass's owner, Mr. Dunes. Men and woman toil away at the edges of Duston, the islands only major settlement, cutting glass and bagging sand, while the Dune family sits in their palace and whiles the day away counting Slivers  Small growths of Echo Quartz are also occasionally found on the island, but not enough for it to be a consistent business resource.

History

Glass was settled by colonists from Skyhome in 333 AF, after having previously discovered by explorers a century prior. Initially, the island was owned by a now defunct Skyhome company, but due to a complicated series of events, the deed to the island fell into the possession of the Dune family. Gordon Dune the First declared independence from Skyhome and joined the newly formed United Federation of Independent Colonies.   Ever since its founding, those who wander into the desert at night report finding strange statues half buried in the sands. Come daylight, they disappear, leaving no evidence of their presence.
