Anzez

Founded around a magical nexus in the center of the metropolis in 4001 BF, Anzez boasts a unique circular design structure. The central nexus is a site of immense power, utilized to empower the grand temple of Akan, a massive, stepped temple reaching up to the sun. Around this sky-reaching monument, is the center ring of the city, Akan's Crossing. This religious district is core to Sun Elf culture and the site of mortal sacrifices to the Sun God. Citizens of Anzez are known for the elaborate neckwear, which is typically golden and details one's personal accomplishments in the city.

As one of the oldest cities in The Empire of Sun, most buildings are formed of carved stone with elaborate delicate decorations. Utilizing a planned spread, the city's districts each offshoot from the center creating their own circular zone. Housing is scattered throughout the city in clusters of tightly connected multi-family living centers.

Economy and Production

The city is primarily an information center, and most of its raw and produced materials are from nearby settlements. With a healthy market economy and a population of roughly 25,000, citizens of Anzez can find a merchant for most goods and services. The primary imports include fatty fruits, which are considered a staple of the local diet, and mortal sacrifices. The local economy is heavily stimulated by tourism, specifically in the following districts: Sunmancer's Hold, Consulate Way, Ma'Kar Maze, and Void-Drake Bastion. Primary exports include alchemical products and religious tools.

Politics and Religion

The Empire of Sun is a theocratic oligarchy, with power primarily held by the appointed Death-Queen. While theoretically power is diffused, Clan Miayra's hold over the cities armies and influence among Sisterhood of the Dawn has resulted in a significant larger number of their members taking the mantle of Death-Queen.

In recent years there has been increasing strife concerning the Death-Queens influence and control over the local provinces. Additionally, a shroud of mystery of the functions of the empire's government has becoming increasingly concerning for the average citizen. A fear that that Death-Queen has assured the populace is nearly stoked embers from opposing guiilds who wish to rise division.

Worship of Akan is the primary religious focus in Anzez. While the faiths of outsiders are tolerated, it is considered exceptionally rude to express faiths outside of the dominant religion. In general Anzez values tradition, cooperation, community, lawfulness, work, and confidence among its people.

The Seven Rings

The city is comprised of seven rings, each focused on a different aspect of the city's functions. At the center, Akan's Crossing attends to the needs of the Sun under the watchful eye of the Sisterhood of the Dawn. Due to their goldy lineage, The Order of Black Sun holds a permanent residence within the temple as well.

To the north, one would find Consulate Way. This district provides housing to the Death-Queen and functions as the seat of political power within The Empire of Sun. It also serves as a housing for the many diplomats and envoys currently working to better relationships with the empire. Represtitives from the Ma'Kar Free Traders and The Eagle Assembly have been most prominent as of late.

To the north-east rest Ma'Kar Maze. Named for the large number of Ma'Kar whom have set up trading posts within the district, it is a sprawling abode of markets and fountains. It is also the home district for The Spark of Discovery, a scientific guild focused on promoting intellectual advancement of all people.

In the southeast corner, one can constantly hear the battering of weaponry. Housing the grand fort of Clan Miayra, Miayra Aerie houses and trains the cities armires and guards.

Arena Valley is rowdy day and night. Centered around the city's fighting pits, the southern district homes most of Anzez's poorest citizens. Filled with breweries, brothels, and thieves - it is clear why the city planner's kept is as far from Consulate Way as possible.

The second sight in the Anzez skyline, Sunmancer's Hold is a place of education and illumination. Known for its educational campus and massive tower, the southeast district houses many of the empire's most promising minds and magical adepts from across the land. Education is carefully crafted by the ever-vigilant members of The Order of the Timeless Sun.

Finally, Void-Drake Bastion provides functions as a transit hub between empiral territories and allied planets. Operations are managed by the Black Drake Transport Union, a guild that has been increasing in power and prestige since the opening of the rift-gates.

Localized Phenomena

Early Sun Elfs were both drawn to and terrified of the magic wells centered in Anzez. At the core of the city, in the district now known as Akan, a planar overlap connects the realm of mortals to that of the abstract.
